Quote:
In the remarks Romney later tried to deny, he derided President Barack Obama: "He says we need more firemen, more policemen, more teachers." Then he declared, "It's time for us to cut back on government and help the American people."
You can see why I was ready to give points for honesty. For once, he actually admitted what he and his allies mean when they talk about shrinking government. Conservatives love to pretend that there are vast armies of government bureaucrats doing who knows what; in reality, a majority of government workers are employed providing either education (teachers) or public protection (police officers and firefighters).
.......................
The really decisive evidence on government cuts, however, comes from Europe. Consider the case of Ireland, which has reduced public employment by 28,000 since 2008 — the equivalent, as a share of population, of laying off 1.9 million workers here. These cuts were hailed by conservatives, who predicted great results. "The Irish economy is showing encouraging signs of recovery," declared Alan Reynolds of the Cato Institute in June 2010.
But recovery never came; Irish unemployment is more than 14 percent. Ireland's experience shows that austerity in the face of a depressed economy is a terrible mistake to be avoided if possible.
.........................
Actually, it's kind of ironic. While Republicans love to engage in Europe-bashing, they're actually the ones who want us to emulate European-style austerity and experience a European-style depression.
Needless to say, this bodes ill if Romney wins in November. For all indications are that his idea of smart policy is to double down on the very spending cuts that have hobbled recovery here and sent Europe into an economic and political tailspin.

While Mitt Romney does remind of the senator in Godfather 2, you are rooting for an imbecile.

Umm, I'm not rooting for Mittens. I'm rooting against the sheeple*.

Note: *sheeple = people who support Romney, as Romney is a breed of sheep.

Meh, rooting for either would make you sheeple really. There's little discernible difference between the two parties. They're both directed by corporate interests. The only real difference is who supports them. If all was right with the world, they'd have to wear a jacket with all the corporate sponsorship logos sewn onto them.

I don't think you understand what sheeple means. You think that the obvious power man is evil, and that people rooting for him are sheeple, but you are missing the subtle, and in the end that makes you even more of a sheeple.

If you want to criticize Romney, sure (I mean you can do whatever you want), but equating in your head that Obama is better instead just shows your limitations and nobody takes you seriously. The fact that you are doing all that from New Zealand, and know fuck all about US, its people, power groupings, alternatives, or anything but you are posing as if you are some well-informed grown up person makes it funny on good days, and less-so on others.

Admittedly, I don't know much either, except for the people I've met while I was in US, and the parallels (valid and invalid ones) that I can make from my own experiences.

But if you think that ANYONE not Romney is better then Romney, and that ANYONE happens to be Obama, then your perception is clearly biased and your equation is skewed.

Again, I think you're missing the layers to this new application of the term 'sheeple'.

Sheeple are those who follow blindly, and anyone still following Obama is a sheeple.

nope. Those who follow Mittens or RPaul blindly are sheeple. Those who defend Obama against all the stupid idiocies from the repbulicunt camp are actually those who are informed, thinking, seeing the truth.

Did Obama made mistakes? sure.
Would romney be better? hell no.

Excellent demonstration on the subject of sheeple. The first is a gross understatement. If the second is accurate, defending Obama is pointless.
