|
|
Hello,
I'd like to start this topic to share gnome-shell extensions at one place for gentoo users. I hope it will help some users to "upgrade" their gnome-shell experiences
Official gnome-shell extensions
This is official set of basic gnome-shell extensions.
Some basic info and installation procedure can be found at gnome site.
For detailed view you can check this site.
Note: xrandr-indicator is currently broken and gnome-shell crash with it. If you want to use user-theme extension, be sure to copy glib scheme to system and compile it.
These extensions are updated in time for new ones so it's good idea to check this git site sometimes.
Weather extension (in ebuild)
I think there is nothing to explain. For pictures and installation check this site.
Can be installed by my ebuild
Complete pidgin integration (in ebuild)
There are two extensions for pidgin:
First one only supports changing your status by gnome-shell user menu (available or busy). This extension can be found here. However as ex-arch user I downloaded their AUR tarball from aur and build it by steps in pkgbuild.
Second one is chat integration (like empathy) and it can be found here and can be installed by my ebuild.
System monitor (in ebuild)
Nothing more to explain. Just check this site for pics and installation procedure.
Can be installed from gnome-overlay or by my ebuild.
Power options
With this extension you can select suspend, hibernation or poweroff in shell user menu. It can be downloaded here.
MediasPlayers - media player control extension (in ebuild)
Fine extension for media player control. "Homesite" is here
Can be installed by my ebuild.
Icon Manager (in ebuild)
This extension lets you choose icons for remove or adding to shell panel. More info at git site
Can be installed by my ebuild.
NOTE: These extensions I am currently using. They are tested and works. I know there are some others extensions over internet. This topic will be updated with adding new ones and you can write your tips and links for it too
EBUILD: Ebuild for extensions can be found at https://github.com/LukynZ/extensions-overlay.

Thanks for this!
Full pidgin integration is quite nice, now that Empathy's ICQ implementation seems broken since 10th of june. _________________ http://proaudio.tuxfamily.org/wiki - pro-audio software overlay

"Old style notification area icons" and "No accessibility icon at panel" has been removed due its support in "Icon Manager" extension.
Ebuilds for single extensions has been removed and ebuild for all extensions has been added. Check first post. |

I tried emerging the gnome-shell-extensions-system-monitor package, but I get an error message when trying to restart, and X will not start until I removed the package again. Do I need to do something more than just emerging it? |

That overlay works great!
I also tried to use cpu-temp (https://github.com/xtranophilist/gnome-shell-extension-cpu-temperature), I copied the files in /usr/share/gnome-shell/extensions/cpu-temp but no sign of applet.
I'm sure that path wasn't correct. The others path are similar with an email address - activity-journal@gnome-shell-extensions.gnome.org GPaste@gnome.org mediaplayer@patapon.info etc.
Any hints/tutorial about how to properly install cpu-temp extension ?
Thank you!
Edit: Well, the answer it's in metadata.json. cpu-temp should be installed in /usr/share/gnome-shell/extensions/temperature@xtranophilist. _________________ Sorry for my English. I'm still learning this language.

I think you have to copy desired ebuild to your local overlay |

No, you have to add an repolist to layman ...
Ive created a list myself and share it with you:
http://proxy.mws-jacob.biz/gentoo/layman.xml
Just, download this file to your desired location, open /etc/layman/layman.cfg and add the file, i.e:
Code: | overlays : http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/overlays/repositories.xml
file:///var/lib/layman/your-own-list.xml |
After just sync and add the repo:
Code: | layman -S && layman -a LukynZ |
please, download and dont link directly to this file! |

Uncle CM,
Thanks very much for both pointing that out, and for providing the correctly formatted XML repo file. I downloaded the file to my system, added the filename to my layman.cfg overlays list, and I was able to sync and install from LukynZ's overlay. BTW, I've noticed that the gnome overlay gnome-shell-extensions live ebuilds have been updated to support Gnome 3.2.0, so I'm not sure if the shell extensions will be better installed from LukynZ's overlay, or from the gnome overlay moving forward, but regardless I definitely appreciate the effort here.
Thanks again.. |

Extensions in my repo are unofficial, so extensions in gnome-overlay are different ones. Actually I did updates for gnome 3.2 and some changes for compiling gpaste extension. However actually only 6 extensions work for gnome 3.2 - weather, system monitor, gpaste, activity journal, global menu and mediaplayer

Btw if you wish to add any other extensions to repo - working with gnome 3.2 - let me know and I'll try to add it |
