This picture can show you what I'm talking about.
I did:
emerge qt
emerge kdelibs
emerge kdeartwork ( this to get back the ".NET" style )
Now my "mc" application looks like after some nuclear war

| QT has been updated to version 3.0.5 you need to recompile everything that depends on it or all your widgets will be messed... at least thats what I read the the announcements forum. |

WTF...
I think it messed up your konsole fonts (at least that's the only correlation I can think of QT and a console program)

Latest qpkg (in gentoolkit package) can to this:
will show all depndencies on qt.

Which font are you using for konsole 
Right click konsole | settings | font
Try changing it.
