Xosd doesn't work; can't find default font

I emerged the latest xosd , because I wanted to use the xmms plugin, but when I loaded the plugin nothing hapened. So I tried to do osd_cat and it gives me this error:
Error initializing osd: Default font not found

What font is the default font and where can i change it? There is not xosd config file in ~, nor in /usr/share/xosd nor in /etc.
