Hiya! I am new to the Gentoo forums and am thinking about installing Gentoo to my physical computer. I have it already burned to a USB Stick. I do have quite a sum of Linux Knowledge so I think if I want to learn the most I will use Gentoo. My problem is my network is WPA and I cannot use WPA on the Gentoo Installer. I do take my computer to school on weekdays and tomorrow I have a 2-hour study hall due to finals. Should I install Gentoo At School (During the Study Hall) and download the stage3 tarball and portage and then when I get home configure my kernel manually? Or is there a way to install it over WPA? Please Help me! Total Gentoo KNOOB Here! |

GentooLinuxKid,
Welcome to gentoo
You can use any live cd e.g ubuntu, mint etc. to install gentoo so maybe one of those will support WPA.
Also you can try SystemRescueCd a try _________________ Good luck
Since installing gentoo, my life has become one long emerge |

if wpa_supplicant is available, you can just
Code: | wpa_passphrase essidname password | wpa_supplicant -B -i wlan0 -c /dev/stdin |
where essidname is the name of the wireless network you are trying to connect to, and password is the WPA key. Then just
and you should be set |

http://kernel-seeds.org/ is well worth a visit for education and for use in configuring a lean stable kernel. _________________ Defund the FCC. |

Sorry But I wanted to Know about WPA During Install, I have the answer I need. Let me write that code down. Thanks so much. I was worried that you were all gonna be RTFM as that's what I've heard about the Gentoo Community. You guys aren't like that though! |
