What version of glib you have, if it is stable then you should file a bug.

You have stable net-print/libgnomecups and unstable glib, they do not play together.

Stupid question: file a bug with the gtk+ project, or another?

thanks

Running Gentoo stable means software builds are tested against each other. Has not much to do with what upstream declares stable.
Code:
dev-libs/glib
     Available versions:
        (1)     1.2.10-r5
        (2)     2.28.8 2.30.2 (~)2.30.2-r1 (~)2.30.3 (~)2.32.0 (~)2.32.1

net-print/libgnomecups
     Available versions:  0.2.3 0.2.3-r1 (~)0.2.3-r2

There is no valid reason to file a bug if you mix branches - I'm talking about Gentoo bugs.

Ah, I see!

I'm a java developer who enjoys the flexibility of the gentoo platform but have a bit of a learning curve when I try to upgrade. Thanks very much for your help!

In some cases, when a stable package fails to build due to using an unstable dependency, you can get a successful build by switching both of them to unstable.
