11.1.102.63 was acceleration-less but working well.
Updated to 11.2.202.228 (+32 +64 +vdpau) , the video rendering is now accelerated but all videos are displaying everything with blues highly saturated.
(Whatever browser, whatever plugin : Opera + 32 bits plugin / Firefox + 64 bits plugin.
In addition to this, when closing a tab while the video is playing makes Opera segfault.
Is that just me ? _________________

Thank you Gusar.
The hardware acceleration back was just a joke. _________________

I don't have any problems with blue saturation,
Code: |
[ebuild R ] www-plugins/adobe-flash-11.2.202.228
[ebuild R ] x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-295.20-r1
|
But this,

is fricking annoying. |

Doesn't segfault here, but takes quite a while (about 20s) until I can change to another tab or actually do anything like clicking on a link. _________________ Kali Ma

I might have been too quick writing that Opera segfaults.
Formally speeking, its the opera plugin wrapper which segfaults :
Code: | 01/04/2012 11:47:01 [kernel] [ 6542.146724] operapluginwrap[2610] segfault at 6f747372 ip 00000000f69da3d0 sp 00000000ffb49040 error 4 in libgobject-2.0.so.0.3000.2[f69a8000+44000]

I also had this and as it only happened on youtube I truly thought it was a april first joke, all videos look like smurf or avatar quite funny, but after asking around friends said they didn't see it. Disabling hardware acceleration did the trick but as adobe said 11.2 would be the last version of flash anyone know if they will release another version with corrections to solve this? _________________ nasci pelado, careca e sem dente, o que vier é lucro |

Apparently an update to x11-libs/libvdpau solves the blues problem, but, the manifest file is corrupted as it whines about a file not listed in the Manifest
Code: | # emerge --update --deep --newuse --with-bdeps=y --verbose world
These are the packages that would be merged, in order:
Calculating dependencies .. . ... done!
[ebuild U ] x11-libs/libvdpau-0.4.1-r1 [0.4.1] USE="-doc" 0 kB
Total: 1 package (1 upgrade), Size of downloads: 0 kB
>>> Verifying ebuild manifests
!!! A file is not listed in the Manifest: '/portage/gentoo/x11-libs/libvdpau/libvdpau-0.4.1.ebuild'

libvdpau-0.4.1.ebuild should no longer be in portage's tree.
So... you can safely remove this file or if you prefer, just resync your portage tree. _________________

How long has 0.4.1 not been in portage?
I have re-synced between typing the original message and responding with this one, and it's still there.
Code: | root@lyalls-pc /portage/gentoo
# find . -name 'libvdpau*'
./metadata/cache/x11-libs/libvdpau-0.4.1-r1
./metadata/md5-cache/x11-libs/libvdpau-0.4.1-r1
./metadata/md5-cache/x11-libs/libvdpau-0.4.1
./x11-libs/libvdpau
./x11-libs/libvdpau/libvdpau-0.4.1.ebuild
./x11-libs/libvdpau/libvdpau-0.4.1-r1.ebuild
./distfiles/libvdpau-0.4.1.tar.gz

Don't know that really. I no longer get it in the tree I synced this morning.
But... BTW... do not rush on this upgrade...
I would be very surprised that it (0.4.1-r1) solves anything to the saturation in the blues as... from the changelog... I understand that the difference with previous version is a simple matter of directory pathname... https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=389387
EDIT : From changelog : 01 Apr 2012; Tomáš Chvátal <scarabeus@gentoo.org> -libvdpau-0.4.1.ebuild, _________________

no, libvpdau-0.4.1-r1 does NOT solve the blue saturation issue _________________ .... there is nothing - absolutely nothing - half so much worth

Had the same problem.
Downgraded adobe-flash to
www-plugins/adobe-flash-10.3.183.10
Works fine with vdpau.

I have the same issue:
Code: | x11-libs/libvdpau-0.4.1-r1 |
Code: | x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-295.20-r1 |
11.1.102.63 this version works fine, I have a default adobe-flash config with vdpau use flag set. |

It also has known vulnerabilities. At least get the latest 10.3 here. 11.1.102.63 is also vulnerable (and avoids blue people because it has disabled hardware rendering). All versions except those at that link are vulnerable
Then there's this: The trick to get rid of blue people is not to disable hardware acceleration or go to old versions - it's to enable hardware decoding. If you right-click on a youtube video and choose "View video info", you'll see "accelerated video rendering, software video decoding". Only this combo has blue people (Flash sends the U/V planes in wrong order, the libvdpau_trace hack swaps the planes around so they're in the correct order again).
To enable hardware decoding, put this in /etc/adobe/mms.cfg Code: | EnableLinuxHWVideoDecode=1 |
Some people report lots of crashing with that, but no crashes here. Of course you'll still have the leaking overlay problem - Flash sets the overlay colorkey to black, so the Flash content will be shown on everything that's black, even if you switch to a different tab or minimize the browser window. The libvdpau_trace hack works around this by preventing Flash from setting it's own colorkey.
Edit: Ok, I do have crashes. Not at youtube, but elsewhere. Found an interesting thing though, export VDPAU_NVIDIA_NO_OVERLAY=1 before launching the browser. This way I get no leaking overlay (since a different method is used for display), no blue people and no crashes. Also, no need for the libvdpau_trace hack.

With:
Code: | EnableLinuxHWVideoDecode=1 |
the version 11.2.202.228 of adobe-flash working without blue people, but I'm afraid it cause a trouble with rewinding videos, just like before.
EDIT:
On Youtube when I try to resize the video the tab in chromium browser crashed every time I do this. |

Yep. Try with VDPAU_NVIDIA_NO_OVERLAY=1, it fixed the crashes for me and at least one other person. |

For me, fixed the blue cast but introduced crashes.
I ended up re-installing chrome to check out the stuff where Firefox flash crashes.
I prefer firefox, primarily due to plugins, but if flash doesn't crash and doesn't turn everything blue, I will use that, when necessary. _________________ ...Lyall |

I get blue people too. They only way for me to fix this without crashing is to disable HW acceleration. I tried the other methods, but got crashed with some flash content like Vimeo. Does anyone else have a fix that allows me to keep HW acceleration on? _________________ Andrew |

The version 11.2.202.228 of adobe-flash is still crashing with my chromium browser. I'd rather to mask and make downgrade. |

Using the patch for libvdpau and starting firefox with export VDPAU_TRACE=1 helped here. No changes to /etc/adobe/mms.cfg were required (r600g).
http://plagman.net/stuff/0001-vdpau_trace-WAR-Flash-quirks.patch
However, http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showpost.php?s=0d8a8923960b235dd6e768c887df2571&p=2541629&postcount=6
Quote: | The problem only happens when Flash uses software decoding but VDPAU for presentation; it swaps two arguments of the call to upload the video data into VDPAU in that case. The libvdpau-trace patch linked above fixes that. If it doesn't work for you, odds are you probably installed it wrong. |
So maybe that's pretty much useless after all.
But simply turning off hardware acceleration in Flash->Settings works fine too.
Edit: It seems using vdpau saves about 10-20% for 1080p content on this machine. On the bad side, I have an ugly green line at the bottom or at the right side of the movie which is not there when using software decoding. |

For me it was the update to x11-libs/libvdpau-0.4.1-r1 that turned youtube videos to blue skins and not the upgrade to flash 11.2.x. Apparently libvdpau-0.4.1-r1 turns on accel. rendering, switching back to libvdpau-0.4.1 solved the problem because it reverted back to software rendering.
Which leads to a very interesting why does it behave differently while it's the same version and the only change in the ebuild is switching from EAPI2 to EAPI4.
BTW I am using radeon OSS driver. _________________ http://wojia.be |
