Hi All,
Wonder if you can help?
Before I run Gentoo on a dual boot I am trying to get used to installing and compiling so I don't screw it all up.
I am running VirtualBox and everything has run fine so far.
Come to install and then run X and I get the below errors and don't know what to do.

You need to properly configure /etc/conf.d/xdm.

Emerge x11-drivers/xf86-video-virtualbox (and x11-drivers/xf86-input-virtualbox would be a good idea), and hopefully it should "just work".

All you need to do in /etc/conf.d/xdm is set the DISPLAYMANAGER variable to the display manager you actually do. Then you still need to emerge xorg-drivers and the Guest Additions to get any form of 3d accel.

Oh, after looking at the message again, it looks like you already have the virtualbox X11 driver… it's xterm you need to emerge. :D

Or any other Window Manager/Desktop Environment if xterm is not desired. ^^

In other words, from the looks of it, it would seem it is working, but does not find anything to do (I haven't tried Gentoo via Virtual Machine so I don't know if there's something else to be done).

That said, there's an idea... build Gentoo within a VM within a Gentoo...
For what purpose?

I know not, yet!
