First a big thank you in advance for the great instructions and forum; and an apology if the answer to this problem is staring me in the face.

I'm working with an old PowerBook G4 and the instructions for installing Gentoo were perfect (except for having to emerge gcc-config to then choose Gentoo's gcc) and everything has been going swimmingly with the install until I get to:

Code:
env USE=-git emerge -u system

The install arrives at openssl and then I get this error message:

Quote:

Earlier I see this:

Quote:
Since you've disabled or enabled at least one algorithm, you need to do
the following before building:

make depend

Configured for darwin-ppc-cc.
>>> Source configured.
>>> Compiling source in /opt/Gentoo/var/tmp/portage/dev-libs/openssl-1.0.0e/work/openssl-1.0.0e ...
make -j1 depend
making depend in crypto...

gcc-4.2.1: ambiguous abbreviation --

But I'm not sure if that is something for me to do or something that the installer takes care of....

I've searched for this on the forums but didn't find anything; hoping someone might be able to help me out.

Thanks!

d.

Uh....nevermind. :oops:

I removed some ENV variables I had (stupidly) set before figuring out that I needed to use gcc-config to select my gcc. If I might suggest an addition to the amazing PPC instructions for using Prefix/Portage, I would say an explanation after step 1.9 how to select one's gcc would make the run-through perfect.

Portage really rocks. Thanks!
