Compiling mainline kernel for nintendo wii

Hi!
I'm trying to compile a new kernel for a nintendo wii, and I can't get it working. I have compiled the last kernel gentoo-sources from branch 2.6.32 with the mike p5 patches and is working great, but when I try to compile a newer one using the old .config or the default one, the wii just don't boot. Something has changed? Maybe I'm not checking some option? or I have to upgrade the cross compiling tools?
