Hello,

I'm having a bit of trouble getting input methods working. I previously used UIM, but I recently saw that SCIM worked with skype and more applications for some reason, and I tried to switch to that, I couldn't figure it out, nothing worked. Then I found ibus which evidently works the best out of all of them, it was very easy to install. Sadly, it supports what uim supported, which is limited. Here are a few applications that work for me with ibus:

* Firefox (not binary)
* Guake

Some programs which do NOT work:

* Skype
* Java
* [s]Acetoneiso[/s]

[s]I'm noticing that 2 out of the three here use QT and none of the working ones. Maybe QT doesn't like the way I configured ibus?[/s]
Installing ibus-qt did the trick. Skype still doesn't work though, nor does java. I'm using the binary version. I can try openjdk though.

I will post a few config files that I use:

.xinputrc: (this is a symlink)
Code:
#!/bin/sh

export XMODIFIERS="@im=ibus"
export GTK_IM_MODULE="ibus"
export QT_IM_MODULE="ibus"

# allow capslock remap
xmodmap -e 'clear Lock' -e 'keycode 66 = F13'

XIM=ibus
XIM_PROGRAM=/bin/true
XIM_ARGS=
SHORT_DESC="ibus"
LONG_DESC="ibus"

Nothing else seems to be significant. My .xinitrc only contains openbox's exec line, openbox's autostart.sh contains nothing about ibus, having .xinputrc was enough to get it to work (for the most part).

I'm trying to get this working with 2 things in particular:
* Java (for minecraft, now supporting japanese input)
* Skype (for chatting with friends)

I'm not having any problems with uim anywhere. Looks like the problem is with your setup rather than these applications.
