[SOLVED] How to connect to a Bluetooth speaker?

Hi,

My laptop is Thinkpad T61. I have a bluetooth speaker which works well with Windows 7 and Ubuntu. I install all things I can think of on Gentoo, and the bluetooth-manager says it is connected to the device. But I cannot get the audio to play from the speaker.

This is what I loaded:

Code: Select all

bluetooth 144228 23 rfcomm,bnep,btusb
EDIT: As I was configuration my system, I did not start bluetooth service when the system boots, instead, the bluetooth service start up after the blueman applet starts. Thus, this issue occurs.

I think it is smart to check out gentoo docs first:
http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/bluetooth-guide.xml

Also the archwiki might help:
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Bluetooth

To my best and limited knowledge first your bluetooth adapter has to be recognized, then you need to look for your bluetooth speaker, pair it with your adapter and then the corresponding audio device should appear in your device tray.

A bluetooth headset or speaker will not behave different from a USB headset or any other sound device in your system.

Yes, I have read those docs. Currently, I am using the bluetooth-manager GUI utility to configure my device. The manager can find the device and pair with it successfully. After the device has been paired with my laptop, I can choose to forward my audio to it. But then...nothing happens. Also, I cannot see it in the alsamixer.

So, you have read the docs ?

Also the latest part of the archwiki ?
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Bl ... ed_from_it

Are you using sole ALSA as soundsystem ? Or with PA on top ?

There are no error messages in your messages ?

Yes, I have ready read that. I found in the /var/log/messages that there were error messages. But I do not know why dbus has anything to with this.

Code: Select all

Feb 20 20:07:33 thinkpadt61 dbus[1895]: [system] Rejected send message, 3 matched rules; type="method_return", sender=":1.91" (uid=1000 pid=17052 comm="/usr/bin/python2.7 /usr/bin/blueman-applet ") interface="(unset)" member="(unset)" error name="(unset)" requested_reply="0" destination=":1.28" (uid=0 pid=8428 comm="/usr/sbin/bluetoothd --udev ")

Any update guys?

I tried to send files from my phone to my laptop and receive files from my phone, and both succeed. I think my Bluetooth device is set up correctly.
Also, I found after adding my Bluetooth audio, I cannot see any new audio devices in the system tray.
