I have the annoying habit of using evilwm & was running a bit of revdep-rebuild in a terminal whilst fiddling with oclock colours. Trying to close oclock (if you're unfamiliar, evilwm uses ctl-alt-esc instead of a shiny "x" to close windows) I accidentally closed the terminal with revdep-rebuild running. Oops. Except that I was using tmux, so a new terminal window & "tmux attach" later everything is still happily chugging away without a hiccough.
& when you're rebuilding qt4 (yes, thank you scribus, you bloated jerk) on an atom n280, those couple of hours of compiling are nice to have saved. |

I tend to just do maintenance in another terminal and then switch back to X. |
