EDIT: Mplayer2 can play it. Should I switch to that completely?
I recently re-installed on this machine and also this seems to be on another machine that is not a recent re-install:
This video plays fine, but there is no sound:

This seems new as I used to watch tons of HD WMVs with sound working fine. Have the USE flags for mplayer changed?

| I have very similar issue with sound from rmvb, at least part of my rmvb files, and downgrading mplayer to 20120109 solved this problem. Seems something screwed up during updating. |
