I've installed mlpayer2 but some other programs have mplayer as dependency, is there a way to install both simultaneously?

emerge update --deep world -av

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies... done!

emerge: there are no ebuilds to satisfy "update".

emerge: searching for similar names...
emerge: Maybe you meant any of these: net-dns/updatedd, sci-libs/qrupdate, net-misc/htpdate?
gentupe .wine # emerge --update --deep world -av

You can have them installed in the same system at the same time, but I guess they just can't be emerged simultaneously for a reason I don't know of without looking into it more.

I imagine you should be able to get past this by emerging either one of them alone, instead of simultaneously via the system-wide update.
Have you tried emerging either one of them alone?

If I'm not missing something else, this should be the solution.
Or so I believe at this time.

By the by, logs and other output like that looks a bit more easier to read if you use the [code ] code tags [/code ], like so (same without the white spaces):

Code:

There are different ways to solve this.

1) File bugs for those packages that require mplayer as a dependency to also allow mplayer2 as alternative. In the meantime you can let portage know that mplayer is already provided, by adding the following to your /etc/portage/package.provided :
Code:
media-video/mplayer-1.0_rc4_p20120128

2) Disable the symlink useflag in mplayer2 (this is what actually blocks mplayer, as it causes a file collision), so you can install both mplayer and mplayer2 at the same time.

solved by:

add

media-video/mplayer2 -symlink

to package.use

Thanks!
