Ok, i've updated qt and mysql recently and after a few probs mysql is working fine 
I use a mysql fontend called prokyon3 to manage mp3's and ogg's but now when upon launching it i get this message:
| Code: | QSqlDatabase warning: QMYSQL3 driver not loaded
QSqlDatabase: available drivers:
ERROR CONNECTION |
From what i've discovered, this means it can't find the mysql-qt plugin......but i installed qt with the 'mysql' flag??
Is there any way to test if this is the case or any other ideas about that message ?

I has the same problem.
I make the following:
- update MySql to the 4.0.15 version
- make all the 3.xx -> 4.xx stuff
- reemerge qt with USE="mysql"
- reemerge prokyon3, and voila!!! It works!!

When you have installed v. 3.xx and emerge 4.xx, there are a couple of scripts you must run to update the installation. All is clear explained when you emerge it, I don't remember the exact steps, but it begins with something like:
| Code: | | ebuild /var/db/pkg/dev-db/mysql-4.0.15/mysql-4.0.15.ebuild config |
and this give you some more instructions
