Hello,

My top shows plenty "akonadi_agent_l" processes that, I believe, are akonadi_agent_lanucher. How to get rid of them ?

How to get rid of them ?

I think it is supposed to do that, but then I really don't know what it is supposed to do. If you just want to get rid of them, you can disable it from the system settings (something under Workspace Appearance and Behavior I think) or you can set
Code:
USE="-semantic-desktop"
and get rid of it once and for all. After I did that my KDE install is a lot quicker on start up. I have never noticed anything slower or unable to work with this use flag. In fact, faster seems to be the order of the day.

I hope this is helpful to you.

Strange... semantic desktop was disabled despite of those processes...

Also no luck with second option:

Code:

localhost michal # emerge --newuse -uaDv world

 * IMPORTANT: 1 news items need reading for repository 'gentoo'.
 * Use eselect news to read news items.

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies... done!

!!! The following updates are masked by LICENSE changes:
- dev-java/sun-jre-bin-1.6.0.29-r1::gentoo (masked by: Oracle-BCLA-JavaSE license(s))
A copy of the 'Oracle-BCLA-JavaSE' license is located at '/usr/portage/licenses/Oracle-BCLA-JavaSE'.

For more information, see the MASKED PACKAGES section in the emerge
man page or refer to the Gentoo Handbook.

emerge: there are no ebuilds built with USE flags to satisfy ">=kde-base/kdepimlibs-4.7.4:4[aqua=,semantic-desktop]".

Any suggestions ? :)

The first problem is a licence. You can get rid of it by adding
Code:
dev-java/sun-jre-bin Oracle-BCLA-JavaSE

(I think that is the right keyword. If its not, a "*" will take care of it)
to /etc/portage/package.license
You should read the license at /usr/portage/licenses/Oracle-BCLA-JavaSE first so you know what you are accepting.

Second, you should run
Code:
emerge -auvND world
or
emerge -avND world
The N tells portage to check your use flags. I don't remember if I had to tell portage to unmerge anything or if that took care if it.
After emerge finishes, then run
Code:
emerge -c
to clean out the old programs that are not needed anymore.

Since I don't have time to read licence right now I just masked all Sun Java versions newer than that I have installed. Anyway this seems to be unrelated to "semantic-desktop" use flag problem ?

I think emerge -auvND world is exactly the same as I did before (emerge --newuse -uaDv world ) because -N is the same as --newuse. So I am getting the same error (without the "java part" now). Looks like some packages depend on kdepimlibs with semantic-desktop turned on. I am wondering if uninstalling akregator isn't the only way to get rid of this annoying software.

Yea, your right sorry. I was not reading to well last night.

I just checked my instillation and the following packages were pulled by the semantic-desktop use flag. I believe that if you remove them you should be able to recompile the remaining packages with the new use flags. As depclean would remove these anyway, I don't think that manually removing them will be a problem:

Code:
emerge -C dev-db/libiodbc dev-libs/shared-desktop-ontologies dev-db/virtuoso-odbc dev-db/virtuoso-server dev-libs/soprano app-office/akonadi-server kde-base/nepomuk

I removed akregator, seems that I will have to choose other news reader. Akregator and its dependancies required kdepimlibs compiled with semantic desktop.

Thanks.

Your output suggests that if you disable the kontact USE flag you should be able to use Akregator without semantic-desktop. However looking at the ebuilds I am not so sure, probably worth a try though?
