Hi to all Gentoo users from a newbie.
Hope this is the right sub forum for this post!
I'm Steve from Houston Tx, and just installed Gentoo in a VM under Fusion on a MacBook Pro 2011. I run VB also but wanted to get more use from Fusion. Very good product btw.
I plan on using Gentoo to continue my study of scripting.
The incredible documentation allowed me to progress through the install with only two hitches. Both were my fault.
First, I edited the grub.conf file wrong, and second, I misconfigured the net. The grub error resulted in error 15, and the net error resulted in no interfaces, not even lo!
After a bit of review, I discovered my errors and the system booted and the networks came up.
I've updated the system and installed three programs:
1. less - missing from default install and installed fine
2. vim - I use this a lot and installed fine.
3. links - will use this in Gentoo as I won't likely install a desktop also installed fine.
That's about my progress so far.
Have a good night.
Steve.
ps
I have tried to get a buddy to try Gentoo but I think the length of the install doc scared him off. He is a IT pro supporting Windows. |

Sounds like you're working in text mode for now, try installing X
It will make writing scripts a lot easier. |

Install TMUX/Screen, It's a "Tiling WM" in the TTY, wich needs no Xs. |
