hi there,
i uninstalled networkmanager, but if i do a systemupdate portage wants to reinstall it, how to avoid that ?? i checked /etc/make.conf but there is no networkmanager useflag, i also checked the /var/lib/../world file but theres no networkmanager in it ...
i start wpa_supplicant as system service, but a look into /etc/conf.d/wpa_supplicant lead my to the assumption that wpa_supplicant is not the service or package that is responsable for the behaviour mentioned in the title of this post.
any suggestions ??
thanks a lot _________________ I do not have a Superman complex, for I am God not Superman

Try examining the output of:
Code: | equery d net-misc/networkmanager |
If that program is not available, you will find it in app-portage/gentoolkit. I suspect you will find that gnome-extra/nm-applet is in your world file, but that's strictly a guess. |

Code: | $ equery d net-misc/networkmanager
* These packages depend on net-misc/networkmanager:
app-misc/geoclue-0.12.99 (networkmanager ? net-misc/networkmanager)
gnome-base/gnome-applets-2.32.1.1-r2 (networkmanager ? >=net-misc/networkmanager-0.7.0)
gnome-base/gnome-panel-2.32.1-r3 (networkmanager ? >=net-misc/networkmanager-0.6.7)
kde-base/solid-4.10.2 (networkmanager ? net-misc/networkmanager)
kde-misc/networkmanagement-0.9.0.8 (>=net-misc/networkmanager-0.9.4.0)
mail-client/evolution-2.32.3-r1 (networkmanager ? >=net-misc/networkmanager-0.7)
net-libs/libproxy-0.4.10-r1 (networkmanager ? net-misc/networkmanager)
net-misc/vino-2.32.2-r1 (networkmanager ? >=net-misc/networkmanager-0.7)
www-client/epiphany-2.30.6-r1 (networkmanager ? net-misc/networkmanager)
xfce-extra/xfce4-power-manager-1.2.0-r1 (networkmanager ? net-misc/networkmanager) |
i did check my world file, and only xfce4-power-manager was in there, so i removed it but it is still being pulled in ...
do i have to manually uninstall all of the packages above ???? even if they arent in my world file ??? ok i guess i could mask networkmanager ... _________________ I do not have a Superman complex, for I am God not Superman

Nope, that's the package that's unconditionally pulling it in. Note that the rest of the packages only pull it in if you have networkmanager USE flag, which you indicated is not set. |

Well, absence from make.conf does not prevent it from being set on some package either through the default settings or package.use. First, I would try using --depclean followed by emerge -pvtuND world to see what exactly is pulling it. Somehow, I suspect that kde-misc/networkmanagement is being pulled by something. _________________ First things first, but not necessarily in that order.
Apologies if I take a while to respond. I'm currently working on the dematerialization circuit for my blue box. |
