gcc 4.3 and 4.4 have been rebuilt, but that didn't solve the problem. I did got rid of old libmpfr and libgmp files, so it wasn't completely useless :)

My main problem now is that i don't know which package the files belong to, equery doesn't return any result. As far as i can see gcc-config copies those files from wherever the gcc is installed to /usr/bin, but switching the profile didn't help either.

Just to be sure here's my file list:
Code:

 * //lib/cpp
 * //usr/bin/cpp
 * //usr/bin/cc
 * //usr/bin/gcc
 * //usr/bin/c++
 * //usr/bin/g++
 * //usr/bin/gcov
 * //usr/bin/i586-pc-linux-gnu-cpp
 * //usr/bin/i586-pc-linux-gnu-gcc
 * //usr/bin/i586-pc-linux-gnu-c++
 * //usr/bin/i586-pc-linux-gnu-g++

Do you think switching to gcc 4.5 now (in the middle of an upgrade) is a safe thing to do ? I also noticed that running emerge -p --update --deep --newuse gcc will try to update glibc before it updates gcc, so i'm not sure that would be a good way to solve this.

The file /usr/bin/gcc is a wrapper binary owned by sys-devel/gcc-config. It is copied from its normal home to /usr/bin/gcc when you set the gcc profile.

Recompiling gcc-config finally did the trick, glibc is now compiling :)

Thanks for your help Hu.

Who++:
emerge gentoolkit
equery b /bin/bb
equery b /sbin/sln
equery b /sbin/ldconfig

And:
emerge -1 all packages name the equery will gave you

Just wanted to say that the suggestion by krinn worked in my case.
Thanks.
