That was the point of the maieutic post, you dolt. It was a recursion joke. I guess it went over your head, so here: making up words for the sake of it is intellectual midwifery. It is, however, a good thing.
Yeah, I don't get it. Especially when you get the meaning wrong:
Quote:
maieutic
meɪˈjuːtɪk/
adjective
of or denoting the Socratic mode of enquiry, which aims to bring a person's latent ideas into clear consciousness

I didn't get the meaning wrong at all; you merely lack the intelligence to understand what you are reading. Socratic techniques are, similarly, intellectual midwifery (a literal translation of the metaphor implied by the word, maieutic). In fact, I'd bet money that you actually discovered that when you looked it up, but then were overwhelmed by your own unethical nature and immoral urges, and only cited one of several definitions in front of you -- the one which, due to your own illiteracy, educational deficit, lack of worldly experience, and general cognitive shortcomings, you mistakenly believed to support your misbegotten opinion. We can assume as well this is why you provided no link to your truncated source.

So, to use it in a sentence...

Recent events demonstrate the apotropaic qualities of 4chan.

I think so, it's been a good 5 years since I was big into 4chan. Maybe swap 4chan for wikileaks?

I can't remember what I said but it was something like "I was dancing apotropaically to stop Debian going the systemd way"

Any way you want to ward off something evil. If you don't want or like something evil then apotropaic is the way you want to get it away. I can't think of any other way you can say it in under about 4 words - such reasons were why words are created.

(from Greek apotrepein "to ward off" from apo- "away" and trepein "to turn"

Gargoyles are examples of things that are apotropaic insofar as they are meant to stop evil spirits which is why you often see them on European churches.

So is eudev

You got it wrong. Admit it. Stop backtracking.

It's the singular "milkshake" and "to the yard", old chap.

Why on Earth are you going 36 hours without sleep at your age and in your condition?

Quote:
Desiderata
by Max Ehrmann, 1952

Go placidly amid the noise and haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible without surrender
be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly;
and listen to others,
even the dull and the ignorant like cokey;
they too have their story.

Avoid loud and aggressive persons,
they are vexations to the spirit.
If you compare yourself with others,
you may become vain and bitter;
for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.

Keep interested in your own career, however humble;
it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
Exercise caution in your business affairs;
for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;
many persons strive for high ideals;
and everywhere life is full of heroism.

Be yourself.
Especially, do not feign affection.
Neither be cynical about love;
for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment
it is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years,
gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.
Beyond a wholesome discipline,
be gentle with yourself.

You are a child of the universe,
no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore be at peace with God,
whatever you conceive Him to be,
and whatever your labors and aspirations,
in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.

With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world.
Be cheerful.
Strive to be happy.

Quote:
Gaslighting is a form of manipulation that seeks to sow seeds of doubt in a targeted individual or in members of a targeted group, hoping to make them question their own memory, perception, and sanity. Using persistent denial, misdirection, contradiction, and lying, it attempts to destabilize the target and delegitimize the target's belief.

Instances may range from the denial by an abuser that previous abusive incidents ever occurred up to the staging of bizarre events by the abuser with the intention of disorienting the victim. The term owes its origin to the 1938 Patrick Hamilton play Gas Light and its 1940 and 1944 film adaptations. The term has been used in clinical and research literature, as well as in political commentary.

I've known that word for several months, because two of my co-workers are sociopathic.

Yeah, I'm painfully aware what gaslighting is.
