Hello... after upgrading to Gnome 3.2 I can't no more start desktop environment

GDM starts and I can only see some blue "wallpaper" and nothing more... HELP.

EDIT: I'm compiled gdm with -gnome-shell USE flag now I can see login screen but after that everything hangs again.

I'm using nvidia-drivers-290

Hmm, that was not as informative as I'd hoped it to be. The interesting part is this:
Code:
g_dbus_connection_real_closed: Remote peer vanished with error: Underlying GIOStream returned 0 bytes on an async read (g-io-error-quark, 0). Exiting.
gnome-session[7905]: Gdk-WARNING: gnome-session: Fatal IO error 11 (access denied  temporary) on X server :0.

g_dbus_connection_real_closed: Remote peer vanished with error: Underlying GIOStream returned 0 bytes on an async read (g-io-error-quark, 0). Exiting.
which unfortunately is a result and not a cause of your problems.

Sorry, I wouldn't know how to help you with this.

Sorry for another post but I managed to discover something out:

x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-285.05.09 + x11-base/xorg-server-1.10.4-r1 = Can log to system but only in fallback Gnome mode :(

x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-290.06 + x11-base/xorg-server-1.11.2-r2 = Everything hangs on GDM, can't even type password. I can only see this blue background.

Can anyone help me?

How to run full Gnome 3.2?

If it hangs before you can type the password, look for error messages in your /var/log/gdm/:0-greeter.log file.

If it hands after you type the password, check if you have a gnome-session or gnome-settings-daemon process that is taking 100% of the CPU. In that case, you are suffering from an nvidia driver bug, for which there is a somewhat complicated workaround.

I don't even see the "password box" only this blue background.

So this is nvida bug OK I figured it out but... as U can see in my earlier post. Drivers without a bug x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-285.05.09 are downgrading mine xorg-sever from 1.11.2-r2 to 1.10.4-r1.

Gnome starts only on this strange mode between 3.2 and 2.x version. Fallback I presume?

Why I cannot run full 3.2?

Were you running compiz in Gnome 2.x?
I had issue with Gnome 3.2 startup too.
I found out it was compiz settings from previous Gnome 2.x that cause Gnome 3.2 startup fail.
I deleted .gnome2, .compiz, .emerald in my home directory and Gnome 3.2 started eventually. :)

I didn't mean it to be funny. When you create an autostart file in kde4 it files it in ~/.config/Autostart, if you cut all those autostart files and paste them in you .kde autostart folder, they only will start with kde

Hmm... and what is the point of that if I use only Gnome? I can just cut files from ~/.config/autostart to a random folder in my PC to prevent them from starting.

Crap... I solved the mystery... stupid grsecurity is blocking the gnome-shell damn...

Anyone know with option in pax/grsecurity is responsible for that? I really don't want to abandon Hardened just because of stupid Gnome-Shell.

Any Idea?

Pryka, my post was assuming that you use more than just gnome. I am a kde user and occasionally will log in to gnome. If you have no use for any other desktops, then you can simply delete the autostart files altogether.

I don't see a reason to use two desktop environments :)
