I'm trying out the new portage alphas. They seem to work fine. But one thing i noticed is that they now don't give any feedback from the compiling process at all, except for when it encounters an error, just like when you specify --quiet as an option. I liked to see the compilation output as it progressed, is there any way to get this back? I looked through the emerge man page but haven't found anything relevant to that... And I'm referring to portage-2.2_alpha74 and portage-2.2_alpha75.

Thanks for your help :))

Yes, see this mailing list thread. Set --quiet-build=n if you want to see build output.

Also participate in the forums poll if you have an opinion on this.

That sounds strange but today when I was updating my system, portage still doesn't give much feedback compiling information, even though I have

It won't if you use --jobs

It seems that when portage get updated in `emerge -aNDuv @world' emerge won't give any feedback whatever may be `--quite-build=*'. However, after that batch of updates, portage just behave as expected. I observed this two times already.

Moved from Unsupported Software to Duplicate Threads in favor of Should portage hide build output from the user by default?
