I recently set up a new system (homebuilt) with Gentoo.

CPU: i7 2600K
MoBo: Asus Maximus IV gene-z (chipset: intel z68)

As I do not plan to buy an additional graphics card I plan to use the integrated intel driver. After fiddling with it for two days I still didn't get it to work. Googling tells me that I'm not the only one experiencing this problem, but I haven't found anything that worked yet.

I used the official Xorg howto and this: http://en.gentoo-wiki.com/wiki/Intel_GMA

However, x server doesn't feel like starting.

Xorg.0.log:

Yes, I use gcc 4.6.1 (do I have to post in the unsupported software forum?) because I wanted to use march=corei7-avx for compiling. Everything compiled without problems though, so I guess my problem with xorg lies elsewhere

Does it matter that I hooked up a regular LCD TV to the hdmi out of the board instead of a computer monitor?

I'm not very experienced with gentoo, but I hope I've provided all the necessary info. Otherwise just tell me what to post.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Do a search, this is an extremely common problem, you'll find plenty of threads discussing it.

Gusar, you were right, I did find a solution for the problem. Although I already search a few times before, I obviously was doing it with the wrong search terms.

Anyways, the solution that worked for me, is this one here: https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-889962-highlight-.html

I, too, used genkernel to compile a newer kernel but then didn't boot into it...
