In order to achieve maximum battery life on a netbook with an Atom N435 & Intel GMA 3150, is it adviseable to use compiz (or similar alternatives like KWin's desktop effects) for rendering the desktop (with minimum effects) or to leave it out altogether and use traditional (2D) rendering?
3D applications won't be used much/at all, mainly browsing the web and doing some office work.
I didn't find any information on lesswatts.org or the wiki on this and I'm not sure if e.g. the chip can disable the "[23]D parts" in order to save some power. |

I would definitely recommend using kwin with minimal effects or just 2D composition. 3D effects will most definitely draw more power from your graphics chip, so less = more battery life. _________________ "Linux is like a wigwam; no windows, no gates, apache inside." |
