Hi guys and girls!
Hopefully that topic is posted at right sub-forum, if not - I will be thankful to be replaced in the right one!
Today I have played with remote Ubuntu installation of a friend via ssh through yakuake (haven't tried at other X terminals...) and noticed different behaviour for/in less - for example
Code:
 less /etc/mpd.conf

Issuing this line in Ubuntu, the operator is capable to scroll the output with mouse wheel, while the same is not true in Gentoo. Had a look the Gentoo forums, brief in both Google and man how to enable it - with no success. This is the content of /etc/env.d/70less in Gentoo:
Code:

LESSOPEN="|lesspipe %s"
# LESS="-R -M --shift 5"
LESS="-R -M --shift 5 -I"

, while there in Ubuntu is no such file for enabling it at system-wide settings. After a brief look at Ubuntu /etc/bash.bashrc I realized that there is no such line, that is capable to determine mouse scrolling. Also could not find a line at /etc/skel/.bashrc responsible for it in Ubuntu.
Let me know if somebody knows how and where is the key to enable such a behaviour. Probably is something very simple, yet I am missing it.
Thank you in advance!

Had a look, and this is not working for me. I should add that using elinks I can scroll with mouse through the pages. Still cannot find the reason why less in Gentoo cannot up and down in pages. While there in Ubuntu everybody is happy to do it, I am still looking for the way to do it in otherwise highly customizable distro we all use...

First things first, do you have gpm installed and added to the default runlevel?

Sorry, I just forgot to mention in my previous post.
