Every x amount of boots my system says it needs to schedule an automatic fsck, however it ALWAYS fails with inode errors.
If i reboot using a livecd and repair it, fix all the errors, then double check and triple check it's then fine again, but guaranteed next time fsck runs automatically, it will fail.
What could be corrupting it? Is my hard disk on its way out? |

Could be, if your having constant errors that's certainty possible, not too big of a deal hard drives are cheap. Do you have any I/O errors in /var/log/messages? _________________ “Music is a moral law. I have no errors in /var/log/messages.
Strangely, this time around, when fixing it from the livecd, it said there were no errors. Even though the scheduled version on the actual hard disk said there was.

Zebbedi,
Which filesystem? Ext, JFS, Reiser? And what parameters? I used JFS at one time, and it tended to throw errors in the Firefox cache files; I suspect it wasn't flushing properly. Alternatively, are you using the same level of fsck on the system as on the livecd? _________________ Greybeard |

It was ext3 and i decided to start again, so i copied all my files off, changed it to ext4 and copied everything back and now it hasn't had a problem since. Ttook about 30 mins to do.
Only thing that did happen was there was a 4gb+ video from my go pro camera on there which failed to copy off. I ignored it and excluded copying it as i had a backup. |
