Hi folks,

I've been using xf86-video-ati for a long time and haven't had any problems since now. About a week or two ago after updating the system as usual I noticed significant performance degradation with some 2d applications and especially those that make use of ncurses. It takes about 3-5 seconds for alsamixer to draw its sliders, pretty same time for xfe file manager to redraw the panels, xpdf is performing slowly too.. I just tried drivers from x11 overlay and it boosted glxgears results however 2d slowness is still present. In order for glxgears to work I have to use vblank_mode=0, otherwise it'd just show a black box without rendering anything.. i also tried switching to gallium and classic mesa driver back and forth but i guess it wouldn't make a difference since this is 3d-related. Any pointers ?

Hi, try adding pci=nomsi to the kernel, it worked for me. What's your machine?

After recompiling 3.0.0 from seeds (kernel-seeds.org) with FB disabled this issue was solved. I'm not sure which kernel option was relevant here though.

Thanks, an update (from 2.6.39-gentoo-r3 to 3.0.4-gentoo) worked for me too. Still a little bit slower than with 2D only I think, but bearable.
