|
|
The only options Firefox offers for PDF files are saving to disk or opening in an external application.
I don't know exactly when this happened. I think it worked last spring. Whenever possible, I try to save PDFs and read them offline, but right now I again need to read a website made entirely of PDFs with hyperlinks
I have www-client/firefox-5.0-r2 with flags Code: | alsa dbus ipc libnotify linguas_en linguas_ru methodjit startup-notification webm | and app-text/acroread-9.4.2 with flags Code: | cups ldap linguas_en nsplugin |
about:plugins page shows Java, Flash and DejaVu plugins but nothing for PDF.
I tried checking documentation that comes with Acrobat Reader, but it refers to the script /opt/Adobe/Reader9/Browser/install_browser_plugin, which is missing.
The solution at https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-887940-start-0.html did help me launch Acrobat Reader, but the plugin is still unavailable.
Or maybe there are some other plugins for PDF?
Almost forgot: AMD64 architecture, www-plugins/nspluginwrapper version 1.4.4-r1
Update: No idea what went wrong, but reinstalling www-plugins/nspluginwrapper helped.

What places should I check for breakages?

What? Reinstalling Acrobat Reader did not help. I wish to avoid reinstalling Firefox, because it's +30⁰C here (at midnight) and my computer tends to overheat from compilation and reboot. I hope I don't need to reinstall anything else, like xulrunner?

Superficial search in the portage tree gave no other PDF plugins. Did I miss anything? Is there anything else in the overlays? (Preferably something that won't pull KDE.)

Is there any guarantee it would work?
The plugin library has been installed to /usr/lib32/nsbrowser/plugins/nppdf.so and /opt/netscape/plugins/nppdf.so . The only question is: what should I do to make Firefox see it? |
