Hi folks
Could use some extra brain power here. I've followed the gentoo install guide as close as possible.
I can't get KDE to work. I emerge'd it according to the desktop install guide, I ran xf86config
startx died into a blank screen
I modified XF86Config
startx died into a blank screen
So I emerged NVidia drivers, modified XF86Config use it (I've done that before on a Redhat system)
startx dies into a blank screen.
Here's the most recent run:
XFree86 Version 4.2.0 / X Window System
(protocol Version 11, revision 0, vendor release 6600)
Release Date: 18 January 2002
If the server is older than 6-12 months, or if your card is
newer than the above date, look for a newer version before
reporting problems. (See http://www.XFree86.Org/)
Build Operating System: Linux 2.4.19-gentoo-r7 i686 [ELF]
Module Loader present
Markers: (--) probed, (**) from config file, (==) default setting,
(++) from command line, (!!) notice, (II) informational,
(WW) warning, (EE) error, (NI) not implemented, (??) unknown.
(==) Log file: "/var/log/XFree86.0.log", Time: Fri Jul 19 15:57:07 2002
(==) Using config file: "/etc/X11/XF86Config-4"
XIO: fatal IO error 104 (Connection reset by peer) on X server ":0.0"
after 0 requests (0 known processed) with 0 events remaining.
[root@mothra X11]#
I've google'd the heck out of "XIO: fatal IO error 104" and haven't found much.
Any ideas? |

It seems to be looking at:
Code: |
/etc/X11/XF86Config-4
|
Are the contents of this file correct? |

Hi, thought my keyboard stuck mmmm ?
Go to desktop environments forum, close to top of list is good info on Nvidia drivers.
Has been other insights on related item also - if this no cure, try a quick forum search.
If need be, can try to show how to use ( Yech ) frame buffer device.
That should avoid repower boots until Nv working .
