Why don't you use better alternatives to kde/qt based mplayer front end instead of using natige gtk ones? It'll save you from even having to need gtk theme emulators. SMPlayer has an overal better features than gnome-mplayer... or you cant even try xt7-player which rely solely on qt4/gambas3 and is even better features/filter wise. The last one could have interested me if only it wasn't an only qt4 mplayer front end. And I guess you could hack gecko-mplayer to use SMP or xt7...

I have played with my options. You cannot use smplayer with gecko. Its basically I use gnome-mplayer or vlc, and the vlc plugin has no controls in firefox and is buggy at best. I mean I don't have any less functionality but I just want everything uniform. I don't mind using non-qt applications, I would just like to figure this bug out.

Which version are you running?

I'm running gnome (2.32) here and the newest version (1.0.4) is not themed correctly as well.

Downgrading to 1.0.3 (as well as gecko-mediaplayer) solves it.

Hope this helps!

I had a feeling it was either due to the version of gnome-mplayer or gnome. I'm going to check the version of mplayer on the livedvd when I get home from work and see. Thanks, I'll post an update in a bit.

First, this "kde-misc/kcm_gtk" package mentioned in the summary is no longer in Portage and is replaced by "kde-misc/kcm-gtk-config"
Second, gnome-mplayer is using GTK+-3.0 so the KCM module needs to have support for it... And based on what I am hearing, there is no GTK+-3.0 support yet.

Thanks ssuominen for the answer.

This is actually not a KCM specific problem:
https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=374057

Most themes don't support gtk3. Adwaita is one that does and with that theme gnome-mplayer doesn't look like shit anymore. If you don't want to change your theme you are stuck with tinkering with the ebuild since the devs are a little stubborn and don't want to introduce a USE flag for not using gtk3. The following suggestion seems to activate Adwaita for gtk3 applications only:
Quote:
For now I think that the easier way to get it themed using Adwaita is to
install x11-themes/gnome-themes-standard and, if you are using Clearlooks for
gtk2, switch to Adwaita theme. If you are using a different theme, one option
is to do the following in your home:
$ ln -s /usr/share/themes/Adwaita/gtk-3.0/ .config/.

More discussion was going on in the gentoo-user mailing list:
http://us.generation-nt.com/answer/gentoo-user-how-do-i-select-gtk-3-theme-help-204276981.html

Now that was a waste of time...
