|
|
Well, whenever i middle click in somewhere that is not a link inside opera, it pastes what i have previously selected somewhere in the address bar and makes a "Paste and go", so it goes directly to the link.
It may sound good, because you select something and middle click to go or search it, but its VERY shitty when you mis a link by a few pixels and it gets you to another web or it searches nonsense things in google.
Any way to avoid this? |

Are you certain that there are no custom settings for that mouse-click set within Opera, or somewhere else?
I don't know much about the mouse-gestures, as I always disable them right away. I can see there is an option regarding the middle-click and pasting things from the clipboard, but it changes nothing for me.
Using 11.50 Build 1074 at KDE-4.6.3, I do not experience what you are describing.
For me, it only does a paste, not 'Paste and go'. :S
By the way, Opera is in Portage, so I think it is supported software. ^^ _________________ Kindest of regardses. |

Right you are! Moved from Unsupported Software to Desktop Environments.

You can change what the middle-click means, but I don't see a way to disable it entirely (although that might be possible by editing one of the .ini files directly).
Preferences > Advanced > Shortcuts > "Middle-Click Options" (button in the middle of the dialog)
Your choices will be (radio buttons):
- Paste text from clipboard
- Start panning
If you find accidental panning less annoying than accidental pasting, you might be in luck.
@Chiitoo: Mouse gestures are the greatest thing since binary code. Disabling them is heresy! |

The following seemed to do what you want (disable paste-n-go while retaining open-as-background-tab):
Enter "opera:config" in the location bar, under "User Prefs" scroll down to "Extended Center Mousebutton Action" and change it to "2" (an unsupported value). Click "Save." Worked for me with Opera 11.50. You could probably do the same thing by editing ~/.opera/operaprefs.ini. |

Oh i've found the option under settings, i thought that in there were other options, i was confused by the windows version maybe.
Thanks guys.
BTW, why is this in "Desktop Environments"? Opera is a browser. |

Hahah, may bee, but I'm a lot like that. I tend to not use simple stuff like that even if they might make things easier for me.
Might be stubborn, or old-fashioned even, and accidental gestures can be rather annoying (of course that is just a question of getting used to/setting the options).
I am sure they can be helpful for a lot of things, but I can't think of anything they could really help me with for the time being at least.
Also I was thinking about clicking on the actual address bar, so that's why I didn't quite get the problem.
I see it now, and that function could be rather annoying fer sure. I have always had the panning function on it, though, so didn't really do that, but I noticed that if in Opera you have zarro tabs open and no speed-dial (yer I have even that disabled, wasn't always like that but meh), then even if you have the panning on it, it will search for whatever you have copied. _________________ Kindest of regardses. |
