When I try to run perl-cleaner (during a mamoth upgrade) it breaks:

* Locating ph files for removal

Looks like it might be a missing dependency. Temporarily emerge libXext | Code: | | emerge --oneshot libXext | and then retry your perl-cleaner run. If it works, we can file a bug against libvdpau-0.4.1 for a missing dependency.

The one-shot got me over this hurdle, so it does look like a dependecy issue. |

It's common practice to explicitly not list dependencies for things that, in a well configured system, should always already be there. For instance, almost no ebuild depends on gcc. So there are two possibilities:- It's a missing dependency that should be there, or
- Your system has some minor borkage.
The package maintainer is in the best position to tell which, so it's probably best to file the bug & let the developer sort it out.
Glad you're over your hurdle.

Since nobody took the hint, bug filed.
