wicd-1.7 if USE=old-output net-tools req by dev-ruby/facter

I am installing app-admin/puppet-3.0.1-r1 on ~amd64. The dependency dev-ruby/facter wants net-tools USE old-output. I am also using net-misc/wicd-1.7.2.4-r2 which is the only installed packages depending on net-tools. It does not currently USE=old-output.

What is this version of wicd going to do if I switch to USE=old-output?

I see an ioctl workaround mentioned here:

But as of wicd-1.7, ioctl is marked not supported:

I probably should just try this out, but issues with wics means going offline, not very productive.
