But hey... I could consider running it inside a some kind of container. This would maybe allow me to install it once (with all the dependencies) and performing updates to it and its dependencies very rarely.

Is this possible? I'm running systemd on this PC so I could make use of the systemd-nspawn?

Please note that I have never used any containers, so I'm worse than noob in this.

Well im a n00b myself, so i'm not sure if its possible running the whole kde-framework in a container.
But there are pro's on this forum who know this kinda stuff.
I don't use systemd and i only run blender and firefox in a simple sandbox

URGENT!

There is 16.08.2 version of kdenlive in portage. if you use 16.08.1 do not install it as is very unstable & broken. It is unusable to work. There is no 16.08.1 version in portage, so it means problem for you if you have any important projects, as you cannot open 16.08.1 version project in 16.04 version.

Hi Xywa
So that was the problem :?
I noticed that effect -> Blur and Hide -> Auto Mask did not worked with GPU processing movit lib enabled.
And crashed when you hit the Analyse button.
Some debugging with gdb ( im not a pro! ) led me to movit library.
So disabling GPU movit fixed that problem.
But lets say you wanted to add a face (foto) over those blurred pixels, you can add a Text clip with a foto (png) had issues with jpg files.
So CTRL selecting the video and the affine Transition and going to Options and importing Key frames from clip, you get this face over effect.
This worked only once on 16.08.1,after that one time the system kept freezing up after importing the key frames
So i reinstalled that other LIN DIS to check if it works ,they are using 16.08.2-1, and it does work on that other LIN DIS.
So i know your a pro Xywa.
Can you confirm that this does work on Gentoo 16.08.2. version
Ill be reinstalling after work today, i'll be up and running in a few hours.
Thanks in advanced.

I did manage with those 2 problems: :D

Bug 371264 - 16.08.2 - extremely slowly user interfrance
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=371264

Bug 371257 - 16.08.2 version render previuos projects in 720o instead of Full HD 1080p
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=371257

But looks like there is a problem with rendering (both Gentoo users):

Bug 371263 - Rendering remaining time 00:00 and then stops
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=371263

Bug 371234 - kdenlive_render crashes every render
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=371234

So I asked to get version 16.08.1 back to portage, so we could test 16.08.2 and in the case of any video project to do, we could use 16.08.1. As stable 16.04 do NOT support 16.08.1 projects.
https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=593270
But I am not sure if I should post this as a new bug instead of comment to the old one.

Hi
Ok im back up and running, sorry late response, work!, and i was testing 16.08.2 on xfce4 desktop.

16.08.1 AFFINE still freezes up when selecting Import keyframes from clip. seems ok for the rest, no crashes, only if GPU effects are used.
16.08.2 AFFINE works fine, Dit not detect a slow user interface, but maybe that's because i was running xfce4 desktop, but it's not designed to run on gtk(2-3) desktops i suppose, looks weird :? , so i'm back on kde-plasma-meta.
Did notice render issues on remaining time 00:00 , and crashed after that.
Looking into the bugs and solution and further testing.
cheers.

Many thanks for the answer,

Gentoo developers restored back 16.08.1 version, so I use this for everyday work, and will start testing 16.08.2 as even when rendering stopped at 00:00 there is a ready movie file :) There is many improvements and this version looks fine.

Slow user interfrance:
Quote:
After downgrading to 16.08.1 I realised the same happens for old version for some reason. After spending few hours, I found a workaround:
Goto [Settings] >> [Configure Kdenlive] and then click [Defaults] button. Then close kdenlive, open again, and should be fine for both 16.08.1 and 16.08.2 versions.

You could close this bug.

Hi,

New 16.12.0 version of kdenlive is here in portage :)

Looks like those bugs which make 18.08.2 unstable are gone :)

Many new functions to testing :)

No, I will double check again. When this happen?
All the time when you use kdenlive, or maybe when you have some big project or maybe any effect?

Kdenlive 16.12.3 is out (also in poratge):

The last release of the 16.12 branch brings a few, but important improvements, like fixing a couple of crashes and avoiding a possible corruption as well as a overnight render bug along with other minor stability improvements. All in all 16.12 was a great release and the best is still to come.

In all versions of kdenlive I tried (including the latest 16.12.3), my rendered videos have the cuts at the wrong places: the starting and ending points of the clips are not how I set them. When I preview the video from kdenlive, this problem does not appear, so it apparently arises in the rendering process.

My videos are 50fps, not sure if that matters (maybe there is a 25fps assumption in the rendering code somewhere?).

I looked at the kdenlive bug list, but was scared away by the sheer number of bugs reported in the last few months alone, many of them crashes. I get the feeling that kdenlive is not so stable :( .

Anyone with a similar experience?

Hi Apollo_Futurae,
I'm Running 16.12.3, i have no issues what so ever, but i recall that Xywa uses kdenlive professionally.
I just ran a test render at 50fps, never done this before though, the cuts where at the right place on my machine.

What version of those do you use? (I had similair problem with an old ffmpeg time ago)
media-libs/mlt
media-video/ffmpeg
media-plugins/frei0r-plugins

Option number 2 - encode staff into 25 fps -> and then re-use it again. Similair problem was on someone computer Adobe Premiere, and this advise works also for kdenlive.

Option number 3 - go to -> Settings -> Configure Kdenlive -> Click {Defaults} and the {Apply}. And check it again.

Good news!

We have new movit in portage:
Code:
*  media-video/movit
      Latest version available: 1.5.0
      Latest version installed: 1.5.0
      Size of files: 2,057 KiB
      Homepage:      http://movit.sesse.net/
      Description:   Modern Video Toolkit
      License:       GPL-2+

Which give us a full GPU suport when using kdenlive, which means playing video is very smoothly now. Previous version did not work with many nvidia cards, 1.5 works perfect so far.

:)

When I attempt to run the config wizard in Kdenlive, I get the following error: (screenshot)

The confusion is that both libx265 and frei0r-plugins have been installed:

Code:

$ emerge -pv x265 frei0r-plugins

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies... done!
[ebuild   R    ] media-libs/x265-2.2:0/102::gentoo  USE="10bit 12bit (-neon) -numa -pic (-power8) {-test}" ABI_X86="32 (64) (-x32)" 0 KiB
[ebuild   R    ] media-plugins/frei0r-plugins-1.5.0::gentoo  USE="facedetect scale0tilt -doc" 0 KiB

Total: 2 packages (2 reinstalls), Size of downloads: 0 KiB

Is there a step needed to make Kdenlive actually see the plugins and the library?

media-plugins/frei0r-plugins

This problem is finally fixed: after switching from libav to ffmpeg (somewhat forced by mpv[libav] being masked recently), the renders are now fine!

Thanks all.

Hello! I cannot apply any filter by 'libavfilter maintainers'. 'Perspective' filter, for example. When applied to a video it seems to load forever and nothing happens. I was wondering is it only me? Those filters are coming from mlt package, right?
I'm not sure if I should submit a bug report or something (never done that).

Replying to this thread since it seems to be recent.

Anyway, I'm now running 16.12.3, and one thing that has bothered me for quite a few releases: The 2-pass encoding option is always disabled.

How can I get that enabled?

I found https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=357722 but not many other references.

Any hints on how to enable 2-pass encoding option? I tried modifying the scripts and adding "pass=2" to the options but the end result was that I got a file that only included the audio track... (Trying to render in X264 format, 720p).

I'm having the same error with reporting of libx265 and frei0r-plugins missing when I select the setup wizard, despite explicitly installing them. I did however solve a lot of the crashing by disabling GPU processing (movit library) in config-->playback menu option if that helps anyone.
