Nice site, it has bugs with IE6 though. Select an ebuild and the detail middle window is shown awaaaay down off the screen with a large white blank bit above it. At first I though it was just alack of content till I scrolled down. Changing IE6's window size forced it to refresh and place the middle table in the correct place.

The depency list seems to be showing one less than it should (ex. xmms-midi should have 2, only shows one. xmms-spc should have 1, shows none)

Awesome Awesome Awesome site! Just went to check it and it's great! This should definitely get hosted or linked to from gentoo.org, it's a great resource!

Yeah the IE problem is very annoying I usually have my win2k computer on alongside my gentoo laptop and I like to use both at the same time. Especially when I don't want to use X.

Mozilla and MozillaFirebird both run fine on Windows. To rid yourself of that "IE" annoyance once and for all install an alternative.

Any reason you didn't zip this up using either gzip or bzip? With gzip I can get it down to about 40K, and with bzip it's 35K. Since you used tar, all you have to do is add one more option to zip it up, -z for gzip, and -j (or -y, I seem to remember having a version of tar that used that flag) for bzip. Like so:

Code:
tar -cvjf gentoo-portage-20031019.tar.bz2 gentoo-portage-20031019/

i was tired :), i will have a much better version up later anyway. that one is missing the table layout and any instructions/readme/gpl stuff. im going to work on that tonight, some people were just bugging me about the source so i thought i should pop something up.

I would love to do that but I'm at work right now, and they won't let me install another browser... I like to look at the site on my breaks

Thanks to a couple more submissions from people we now have stats and a logo for the site. i was initally going to go with text only, but the logo is looking just too good to pass up.

Logo - Nigel Bazzeghin of www.nbazz.net
Stats - David Antliff

I will get around to releasing a better version of the source, I swear.
i have also put in a few small changed due to request from users, thanks for the feedback.

im still working on the IE problem, it would be nice if IE would produce the error every time, i hit refresh and it looks fine, hit refresh again and it looks like crap. i'll keep plugging away at possible fixes.

I have been wanting to post that I love this site and the features it has like searching bugzilla.

One bug I think on the stats page. The graphs are way too big. This happens for me in Mozilla 1.4 and in Konqueror. In mozilla the graph covers up the login dialog in konqueror the graph is under the login dialog.

Again thanks for all the work you put in on this.

The stats image still looks a little off, and I can't actually read the stats because they're too small.

I will change the actual image size that the graph module creates - changing the IMG tag size just scales the image. I see you have 400x200 now - is that size OK or a little too small?

When properly generated at 400x200, it looks readable - no crappy browser rescaling required :) Here's a sample:

On my 1600x1200 screen they're only barely readable...

Well, there's a difficult trade-off here between size and resolution. Originally, 800x600 was perfectly readable, but it caused the webpage to look strange. Making them smaller makes the website behave better, but the graphs are harder to read...

So, do we cater for people with high-resolution desktops or for those with lower (1024x768ish)?

Another option would be a set of three links instead of each graph. Gives you the choice of, say, 400x200, 800x600, or 1280x1024 that open the graph in a new page. Alternatively, have the preferred size set in the user preferences...

:?:

thrasher6670: I can try a different font but it's still going to be uber-small for a lot of people...

Some bugs that still exist in the system:
- The dependency lists for packages are still oen item short (0 deps are listed for packages with 1, 1 dep is listed for packages with 2, etc. Some conditionals also may be missing, I'm not entirely sure about that one though)

- The browse portage is still having package listing problems. Lots of packages (which can be found through searching and are visible in my portage tree) are not being displayed in teh browse portage subcategories. Example of missing packages when I browse are dia in app-office and freefonts in media-fonts, allthough many more seem to be missing. Just check xfce-base, only 1 out of at least 12 packages is shown

- Not exactly a bug, but sometimes with long packages names, the package table gets shoved compeltely over the sidebar. Maybe you should check message lengths to dictate whether 3 or 4 collumns are shown.

sorry, dont know how i missed packages missing from the browse feature, this has been fixed, i also fixed the dependancies, it was not showing virtual dependancies i.e. virtual/java. this has been fixed after a couple hours of play :).

I have also made al dependancies clickable, and i finally have time to work on the site so i should get some more features into the testsite out today. any suggestions would be great.

for now, im going to work on reverse dependancies.

(i'll look into making the table shift to 3 columns if the package name is too big)

Another little offset issue (like the missing dependency). In most of the packages I've looked at (but not all, it didn't happen in KDE) - the last dependency listed isn't linked.
