Hi,

I originally had installed Oo 1.0.2 from GRP and teh application was not starting in KDE. I then upgraded to Oo 1.0.3 using emerge and it went through the whole compilation without any errors and said that the new version is installed. If I type emerge -s openoffice now it show the application as installed. But I find that the executables are still not working. Looks like the old installation is conflicting some how. Previously I had explicitly unmerged Oo 1.0.2 before I installed Oo 1.0.3. Now whatever version the executables in usr/bin belong to, the application is still not starting at all.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Venkat.

A few questions for you:

- How are you attempting to launch the application(s)? Are you using a link/icon in a window manager or the command line?

- If using a window manager, which one?

- If you're not launching from the command line, try typing "oowriter" from a command prompt (from inside of your running window manager). Does this launch the application?

- If things still aren't working, go to a command prompt as root and type:
Code:
find / -name "oowriter" -print

Does this find more than one entry of the "oowriter" app on your filesystem?

Hi!

Thanks for your reply. I am trying to run it from KDE. I tried to launch it from KDE start menu it didn't work, then I tried it from console, it says

Quote:
running openoffice.org setup...
setup failed.. abort

there is only one instance of teh executable found at /usr/bin, but i have mounted a mandrake directory in my /mnt and it has a oowriter executable in it's usr/bin. I also tried explicitly calling the oowriter using full path. same result :(

the application just fails to launch. the compilation took so many hours and ended without any errors as i said.

thanks,
venkat.

OK, I searched the forums here and many others have been having the same problem as you recently. For more information, please see this thread:

https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=82954

It appears there are a few common issues:

1) It seems to be happening to users that had prior versions of OpenOffice installed.

2) It seems to be related to one or both of the following:
a) The file "~/.sversionrc" might have problems
b) The Open Office "program" directory might be missing or incomplete (should be located at "/opt/OpenOffice.orgVERSION/program")

I hope that helps.
