Code:
ifconfig
is wlan0 still listed?
Code:
lspci -k
what is listed as Kernel modules: and Driver in use: for the wireless
your netbook should have a button or a key or a key combination that turns the wireless on or off maybe even with a status light?

in the scan window double click your network
in the edit window that appears click add
in the opening window click File --> Save configuration
Code:
cat /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf

does it contain a network= ?
if so post it (for my curiosity)

Code:
cat /etc/conf.d/net
check for the lines
Quote:
dhcp_wlan0="nodns"
dhcp_eth0="nodns"
They prevent overwriting /etc/resolv.conf

then
Code:
reboot
to verify it all starts correctly

Code:
rc-update add xdm default

never heard of eclipse, use emerge to install packages that are in portage.
emerge -s <package name> to search portage for <package name>
congratulations on graduating from "Installing Gentoo"
finish with sections 11 and 12 and then read parts 2,3,4 of the handbook

Code:
emerge -pv dev-java/sun-jdk
will tell how it is masked
it is not masked here for amd64
if masked ~x86
Code:
nano /etc/portage/package.keywords
edit to add
Quote:
dev-java/sun-jdk ~x86

handbook parts 2 and 3 :)

~x86 already covered
licenses are discussed in
http://en.gentoo-wiki.com/wiki/Licenses
http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/handbook-x86.xml?part=2&chap=1#doc_chap4
I use the incredibly sleazy

Code:
nano /etc/portage/package.keywords
edit to delete emerge and change to

for only the one version number (atom)
or
dev-java/sun-jdk ~x86
for any version number

emerge -a eclipse-sdk should do the trick.

Eddi3x3, these questions are answered in the Handbook. Since you gotten through the initial install with DONAHUE's extensive help, it's high time that you read at least the following chapters:
  • Working with Gentoo, which will introduce Gentoo's package management system (called Portage), explain how to find software and documentation, maintain software, and keep your system up to date.
  • Working with Portage, which will explain more complicated and nuanced usage of Portage, such as using experimental or unstable release of packages.

I do however have an error in the bootloader... it reads
Code:

skipped a step: nano /etc/conf.d/xdm edit to
Quote:
# We always try and start X on a static VT. The various DMs normally default
# to using VT7. If you wish to use the xdm init script, then you should ensure
# that the VT checked is the same VT your DM wants to use. We do this check to
# ensure that you haven't accidentally configured something to run on the VT
# in your /etc/inittab file so that you don't get a dead keyboard.
CHECKVT=7

# What display manager do you use ? [ xdm | gdm | kdm | kdm-4.3 | gpe | entrance ]
# NOTE: If this is set in /etc/rc.conf, that setting will override this one.
#
# KDE-specific note:
# - If you are using kdeprefix go with "kdm-4.Y", e.g. "kdm-4.3".
# You can find possible versions by looking at the directories in /usr/kde/.
# - Else, if you are using KDE 3 enter "kdm-3.5"
# - Else, if you are using KDE 4 enter "kdm" without a version

is technically incorrect, grub is the bootloader, you're well past grub when this appears
