I experienced on ppc the following bug : https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-869613-highlight-vlc+mp4v.html
Quote: | vlc does not support the audio or video format mp4v. Unfortunately there is no way for you to fix this. |
But reemerging all what i could have didn't help me till i changed CFLAGS in /etc/make.conf :
I added "-fPIC" option. Actually, it seems necessary to put it to have ffmpeg working on a 64bit system on which there is for instance a 32bit userland installed.
I want just to help anyone who will have the same problem. |

If it's not compiling, please post a bug in bugzilla, or show us here what the problem is. You should not need to add -fPIC to your CFLAGS, that's something that should be added to the specific build having a problem. Actually, this problem seems to have been already encountered on bugzilla here : https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=282390
I searched a long time before understanding it was linked to an error returned when launching vlc (with -vvv):
Quote: | R_PPC_REL24 relocation at 0x0be0a8c8 for symbol '__memcpy_chk' out of range |
But I didn't find any report of this bug linked to the message "vlc does not support the audio or video format mp4v. Unfortunately there is no way for you to fix this.", this is why i searched a long time x). |
