Hello Gentoo people!
Well, it is a year passing by since I am using Gentoo OS.
Although it took me a while to install it,
I am taking my join date on this forum
to be the beginning of the rest of my life.
So, since it has been a year, all you
(unlucky geeks that haven't been born on February 29th)
had a birthday and are a year older.
So happy birthday to you all, and happy new year!!!
(Ladies born on Feb 29th give me a call: 555-STUD)
I would like to take this opportunity
to THANK YOU ALL for helping sincerely yours dumb newbie.
(no, there will be no naming, and no raise in salary either, kheh)
The fact is, that I am still a newbie,
but my learning curve in past year was enormous.
There are still volumes that I am not familiar with,
so keep an eye for my next dumb post,
but stuff that I learned is priceless!!!
Although I did not contribute much, close to nothing,
I am proud as rooster on pile of manure to say that I did help (2nd post):
https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-868033-highlight-.html
To end, I would like to state the fact,
that this is the greatest community I have ever came across.
Documentation and support is spectacular!
This is just not enough sugar,
so now it is time to cut the cake:
Code: | # emerge cake
calculating dependences:
all gentoo users
!!!emerge failed: not enough space!!! |
oh well, hold that thought,
pour some sugar on it,
dunk it in cream
and top it with cherry...
Now, that is a sweet nice looking thought!
Enjoy everyone!
(have emergency stand by,
this is going to be a wild party,
I see rh1 and d2_racing over there are already stuffing
ram and some sort of star-track cpu in boxes
Randy Andy is calculating how to compile us all,
Mike Hunt gave me keys of his yacht, he says he's drinking tonight,
shkador - that balcan boy just don't know when to stop,
disi and Jaglover found stashed burbon,
bobspencer123 is recording everything, I don't think youtube can handle all this...
Telemin kicked dj out and took over,
dE_logics is throwing stuff out of the window (sin is a sin...)
John R. Graham came to fill remaining free space
krinn just crashed the party
Hu dol-sen DONAHUE Mousee Rexilion eccerr0r ssuominen cwr Spidey boerKrelis Satoshi patrikas gregool BradN Chewi crazymonito pingufunkybeat antonlacon ppurka MotivatedTea PanzerKanzler desultory phajdan.jr cach0rr0 few NeddySeagoon Etal Cyker Veldrin szmytson Jimini avx ...
is really everybody coming?
This is too much!
Time to pul the plug on this party...
What do you mean you can not?
Who is at the console, that finish/swedish looking guy in bathroom robe?
Kick him out and shut down the whole thing!
Wait! Who is that chunky gray-bearded guy who just came in?
Well, how am I now going to explain all this to him...
Damn those gentoo people...
I guess tomorrow will be a day off...) _________________ Kind regards, Goran Mitic

HAPPY BIRTHS-DAY GENTOO
Today I celebrate two years of life of Gentoo on my machine!
I would like to take this opportunity,
to thank you all who are helping noobs like me.
Without you all, there would NOT be a gentoo on my machine!
I just need OS, a free one,
so last THANK YOU,
until the next year that is.
What can I say, I will probably steal your time with each next line,
but I guess I have to express thought or two...
This year passed much faster, first thing that comes to mind.
I am able to update almost weekly, I read emerge output so no biggies there.
I can not make all apps to work, so I make nice with alternative ones.
The thing I discovered is, that I build my OS, and I made it (and still making/changing) in my own desire...
For instance, I choose cli to log in, ratpoison wm, and some suckless stuff, and I configured all my key-bindings,
so even for you, who understand what I am writing about, you would need to reconfigure *rc files, or learn mine key-bindings,
to start to use my laptop. Now imagine some of my friends sitting behind it, khehe, no go, hehe...
So this is nice, to have the opportunity to tune up OS to suit my needs.
technically, I guess I am running stable gentoo OS...
I try to keep an eye on unanswered posts, but,
my noob dumb answers were plain failure to help in some cases, khehe...
ok, I think I stole enough of your time,
last year I could not emerge cake for all gentoo users,
so this year I am compiling like this:
Code: | # emerge piece_of_cake
compiling...
done!
# piece_of_cake --give-to-each user |

Happy birthday Gentoo!
wow three years ago I set aside a month to try gentoo.
and it looks like I am stuck with it, kheh heh heh...
The main thing here is that I do not know much about linux,
but I can find a file and paste in it whatever I have been told here,
so guys, big thanks!
So what has happened in last year?
I switched my 2 laptops for one pc box that I configured, bought and assembled,
first time in my life I assembled my pc, yeah! (so as you see that was a big deal).
installing gentoo on that box was a delight, took me 3 hours up to x!
also we got puppy, which is not a puppy any more.
oh and yes, we had most snow this winter than ever, and I hate snow...
ups and downs, as life should be..
Thank you for your time for reading this sentimental post,
and stay well until next year when we meet again _________________ Kind regards, Goran Mitic

Well hello again gentoo people!!!
A year has passed and we meet again! Thank you for stopping by.
Today is four years of my gentoo life, and Fran, in this time you had one birthday? Happy birthday to you too!
I can say that life with gentoo is quite easy for me now,
actually I can not remember that I had any problems with my gentoo.
The only thing that I still do not know how to do is update/upgrade kernel,
so maybe I find time this year to learn this too...
Anyhow, I am noob running gentoo - thanks to you guys here!
and now the weather update:
last year we had coldest and snowiest winter,
this year we had warmest and snow but a taste...
until next year: gentoo on! _________________ Kind regards, Goran Mitic

Happy birthday indeed!
For it was four years ago when I took my first steps as well, though it is five more months away from now to the point when I completely jumped in neck-deep, and to the date of this installation I'm writing from. I do wish time would rest for a spell at times, slow down, make no haste.
Rushing things tends to do no good!
It has certainly been a learning experience, one which isn't showing any signs of coming to an end. I may have journeyed far, yet I feel I'm close to the beginning. I can still find myself surprised by how simple and easy Gentoo really is, especially when I (try to) provide support to someone using Windows or some other operating system. That is when I oft feel they're being overly complicated, even difficult in ways!
I don't blame them, however. It may just be that they are having difficulties with understanding me and my wants, which I'm communicating in a difficult manner to them.
So I say thanks to thee, Gentoo.
\ö/
Cheers to many more years of understanding! _________________ Kindest of regardses. |

Hello again gentoo people,
these days I mark birthsday of my gentoo life,
as noob, mind you, that is how far you got this distro,
so BIG THANK YOU to all ladies and gentelmat who put hours in
so I can emerge stuff.
While I do get around with updates, i must say there has been some change last week
that I havent sorted out yet, so watch out for my post,
but I am keeping my gentoo up to date, and it serves me just as I want it to.
The kernel is still a big tabu, I haven't updated it since I installed gentoo,
I really need time to play with that and time seems scarce these days...
Anyway, here is this years cake:
Code: | ,,,,,
IIIII

{~@~@~@~@~@~}
#############
{~@ HAPPY @~}
{ BIRTHDAY }
#############

/_______\ |
To acompany this lovely cake we have a song from 70 or 80, from my country,
about life and determination to live up to a 100 years old:

Happy birthday Gentoo!!!
Well it is nice to see you all gathered in such a huge crowd, i thank you all for taking the time out of your busy day to commemorate this special occasion.
It has been a smooth sailing, although i do get wicked and try to tinker with system here and there, but thanks to you i always get back on right track.
This year, i do not believe you will take a finished cake, so feel free to compile it yourself as it suits you best, and as you consume it bare in mind that so many noobs as me would not be here if it was not for this community.
Thank you all for stopping by.
Until next year, ta-ta! _________________ Kind regards, Goran Mitic

... incidentally a date shared with the announcement of the IBM System/360, and the internets symbolic birthday (the publication of RFC 1). Its also the date that Attila the Hun sacked the town of Metz ... but, mehhh, they asked for it IMO ;)

Happy birthsday Gentoo!!!
Seven years... that flu by, khaha
Still proudly noob, thanks to you people.
I have to say, i am still very happy with my choice to try gentoo.
Since raspberry pi is on the rise, i meet a lot of people trying gnu/linux distros on their machines, and when i mention that i use gentoo they see me as hard core professional, khahaha!!! Oh such a rise of my ego, but i must admit to you guys, well, no need to admit, just look at my posts, sometimes i can not add one and one together, and i come crying to you guys, khahaha!
So thank you guys for helping noobs like me, making such a great effort for even the dumbest thing i come up with.
I won't keep you any longer, so until next year have a lot of sunshine! _________________ Kind regards, Goran Mitic

There is always room for improvement. I started by doing it wrong, even though it worked :) _________________ Regards,

Happy Birthday Gentoo!!!!
O happy day!
Well guys it is that time of the year again,
when you have to suffer noobs like me thanking you for
gentoo handbook, support on this forum and
overall community that you guys maintain.
I thought, this year, something different,
I'd show you a short documentary I made
while emerge -uDNa @world did it's thing.
There are subtitles, make sure you turn them on:
(1st video, also the third one is cute as internet kitten,
it also contains a kitten)
http://vodjatropa.si/english.html
I hope you enjoyed videos, until the next year: Ta-ta! _________________ Kind regards, Goran Mitic
