Why can't I su to root as a regular user? I tried looking through the different pam modules and tried editing /etc/suauth (see man su), but neither helped.

you need to add the user to the "wheel" group.

run moduser -G wheel <username>
you might wanna check man moduser cuz thats off the time of my head, I'm on a windoze box at work right now.
might actually be usermod instead of moduser. can't remember that either |

Looks like this line: Code: | auth required /lib/security/pam_wheel.so use_uid |

just cd to /etc then nano group then add the name of your user to the wheel group.
simple as that. |
