If your arch is x86, then boot with the default gentoo kernel. If your arch is amd64 boot with the gentoo64 kernel. This means you can boot a 64bit kernel and install a customized 64bit userland while using the provided 32bit userland. The livedvd-amd64-multilib-10.0 version is for x86_64 only.

This DVD is produced on high quality DVD-R media using professional grade duplication equipment. It ships in a DVD style case and is warranted to be verified free from defects before shipping to ensure a quality customer experience.

Under 'other' I think is meant elinks ;)

This method doesn't work as the following problem appears.
Can somebody help me out with it,I am really having big trouble with it :(

emerge -av adobe-flash

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies... done!

!!! All ebuilds that could satisfy "www-plugins/adobe-flash" have been masked.
!!! One of the following masked packages is required to complete your request:
- www-plugins/adobe-flash-10.1.53.64 (masked by: AdobeFlash-10.1 license(s))
A copy of the 'AdobeFlash-10.1' license is located at '/usr/portage/licenses/AdobeFlash-10.1'.

- www-plugins/adobe-flash-10.0.45.2-r1 (masked by: package.mask, AdobeFlash-10 license(s), ~x86 keyword)
/usr/portage/profiles/package.mask:
# Tobias Heinlein <keytoaster@gentoo.org> (05 Jul 2010)
# Severe security issues (bug #322855)

A copy of the 'AdobeFlash-10' license is located at '/usr/portage/licenses/AdobeFlash-10'.

- www-plugins/adobe-flash-10.0.45.2 (masked by: package.mask, AdobeFlash-10 license(s))
- www-plugins/adobe-flash-9.0.277.0 (masked by: AdobeFlash-9.0.31.0 license(s), ~x86 keyword)
A copy of the 'AdobeFlash-9.0.31.0' license is located at '/usr/portage/licenses/AdobeFlash-9.0.31.0'.

For more information, see the MASKED PACKAGES section in the emerge
man page or refer to the Gentoo Handbook.

bodyelectrics,

Read the file /usr/portage/licenses/AdobeFlash-10 if you accept the licence, put ACCEPT_LICENSE="="AdobeFlash-10.1" in make.conf to accept the licence.
The package is also keyword masked, so you need to add www-plugins/adobe-flash to your /etc/portage/package/keywords file.
Lastly, its a security risk, so its hard masked as well, so add www-plugins/adobe-flash tp /etc/portage/package.unmask

The files you need to change may not be writeable on the DVD. It depends if they have been copied to the ramdrive ir not.

Neddy,I am sorry but I just started using Gentoo yesterday and I need a bit more structered and step by step help than the one you provide.
Where can I find this file to accept the license and the others with the plugins because I've been looking for them and can't find them.
Than what to do first?
This command ;emerge -av adobe-flash
or first the License and than plugins and do I need commamds for them.
Sorry but I've been trying to install this flash player for two days now and getting really sick off it :(

bodyelectrics,

The files are all in /etc
You man not have an /etc/portage directory to contain the two files /etc/portage/package.keywords and /etc/portage/package.unmask

Code:
nano -w /etc/make.conf
will open make.conf for editing.
If you have a line starting ACCEPT_LICENSE=", already, add AdobeFlash-10 to the space separated list like the one you posted.
If not add a new line containing
Code:
ACCEPT_LICENSE="AdobeFlash-10"
then close and save the file. See the list of commands at the bottom of the nano termainal window.

Next,
Code:
makdir /etc/portage
if you get an error because it already exists, ignore it and contine.
Use nano again,
Code:
nano -w  /etc/portage/package.keywords
and add www-plugins/adobe-flash on a new line in the file. Save and exit.
Use nano again,
Code:
nano -w  /etc/portage/package.unmask
and add www-plugins/adobe-flash on a new line in the file. Save and exit.

These three edits address address the three masks -
Code:
www-plugins/adobe-flash-10.0.45.2-r1 (masked by: package.mask, AdobeFlash-10 license(s), ~x86 keyword)

If we have both got that right, emerge should get further than it did last time.

Greetings my fellow Gentooligans,

The time has come to release a new Gentoo Linux LiveDVD, it's been over 16 months since our last release and we are very excited about this one. This thread is started to get you the community involved and give you a first look at this beta release which showcases the most popular software in Linux.

This LiveDVD is fully packed and we would like to get your feedback. Please report any bugs you find at https://bugs.gentoo.org/354643.

A complete package list for this media with available use flags and version numbers can be found below. Feel free to make package request for inclusion, but make sure it's not already on the below list and it's license allows binary distribution.

Notes:
My suggestion is to 'dd' this iso into a ~2G usb stick since the Official images won't be on mirrors until next week. You are provided 2 ways to downloading the images.

x86/x86_64 Torrents:

update: As of now the images are on the official torrent page!

HTTP direct download:

See regular mirrors for direct download.

Below are a few Cons and Pros regarding this LiveDVD for those that are used to minimal install cds and don't wish to download such a big 2G iso.

Cons:

  • Large size image ~2GB
  • Requires 512 of RAM or 2G+ for 3d acceleration
  • Only available for x86/x86_64 systems

Pros:

  • Both x86 and x86_64 sys-kernel/gentoo-sources-2.6.37
  • Two images
    1. x86-amd64-32ul - provides a 32bit userland with an optional 64bit kernel
    2. amd64-multilib - Full 64bit userland with multilib support
  • Plenty of hardware support [1]
  • Boots from any removable media [2]
  • Full ~arch system build (How I got Gentoo to agree to this is a trade secret)
  • Supports persistent data for /home (Optional) [3]
  • Comes with optional boot images [4]
  • Uses AUFS2 for / for allowed usage of emerge
  • Comes with 2 easter eggs (good luck finding them)
  • Includes latest KDE,GNOME,XFCE,OPENBOX,ENLIGHTENMENT,FLUXBOX & XBMC.

[1] AMD64 http://paste.pocoo.org/show/344244/ X86 http://paste.pocoo.org/show/344245 kernel configs.

[2] See FAQ at http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/pr/releases/10.0/faq.xml

[3] Booting with the 'persistence' boot option will allow you to retain your $HOME changes on
a separate removable device or if you have space left on the usb that the image is booting from, you
can then create a partition on there then:

1. Create a FS (extfs,reiserfs,xfs etc..)
2. Create an empty file named 'persistence-mode'.
This partition will be used to create a loopback image that will allow persistent data on reboots.

There is an optional boot parameter which can set the image size you wish for $HOME which is persistence_mb=100 for example, will make a 100M size image for your persistent data. The minimum requirement is 69M for now which is the default setting.

[4] This year we have included some extra boot images which you normally would find on the sysresccd.

ntpasswd Edit/reset Windows passwords even on NTFS disks (supports Vista)
freedos FreeDos (run DOS programs from a free OS)
gag GAG (Graphical Boot Manager)
ranish Ranish Partition Manager
aida Hardware diagnostic tool
dban Tool that wipes all data of a computer
mhdd Low-level Hard-Disk disagnostic tool

Stuck. -- desultory

Good idea, nice to hear likewhoa.

On the FOSDEM in Belgium this year, during the Gentoo-track, Neddy Seagoon and lots of other developers discussed about different possible strategies how to make Gentoo more popular.

I guess this could be one way to do so, if the result works as good as it sounds to me.

So go ahaed likewhoa :D

Much success,

Andy.

I like to add that I included the original make.conf used to build the livedvd at /etc/make.conf.gentoo11 for those that want to resume from where i left off. Also anyone that needs to build a kernel, the configs are in /etc/kernels

What ever you want that's not on the liveDVD/USB you can simply emerge, now for Flash you just need to click once on the "Install Adobe Flash" icon on desktop. I will include gnash :)
