Hi Community...

I got a new Problem. When I want to have a rsync session, the System hung up in a few minutes.

Code:
Jan 30 21:49:43 G4 kernel: eth0: RX MAC fifo overflow smac[02010400].

This is the problem, which is in /var/log/messges!
How can I fix this?

Code:
uname -a
Linux G4 2.6.36-gentoo-r5 #2 SMP PREEMPT Sat Jan 29 23:55:07 CET 2011 ppc 7447A, altivec supported PowerMac3,6 GNU/Linux

No solution for that? Am I the only one who has that problem?

give it some time, sewulba

I'm sure in a few days there will be more posts on forums.gentoo.org or lkml

(depending on how widespread usage of the hardware & issue is)

referring to this thread in the "Kernel & Hardware" subforum might draw more attention in addition to the dedicated PPC subforum

cool,

the first patches are already flying in

just try them out with 2.6.37 and provide info, when needed

Good luck ! :)

If this isn't already fixed with a newer kernel, please try to bisect the problem! If you need help with this process, please feel free to ask.

Unfortunately it is not yet fixed. A newer kernel has nothing changed on this Problem. So I need help and feel free to ask you. :?

But not so often, like the kernel before.
I have send 8GByte data over SSH with rsync. No Systemcrash. But the messages in /var/log/messages are not fine.
In the past not more than 350MByte was successfull til systemcrash. It is much better, but why do I got this bad messages.

send the developers & the mailing list a reminder

when the merging phase starts for 2.6.39 they might be more busy than now ...

just reply again to the last one who offered you a patch

and CC all the others (including the linux kernel mailing list, etc.)

something like:

Quote:
to: ...
CC: linux-kernel@..., ..., ...

*Bump*

I still get the same error message, not so often anymore than before but it's still leading to a systemcrash

any other patches please ?

(attach the error messages, kernel-version, pastebin-address to kernel-config, etc. etc.)

By "bisect" I mean a git bisect. You'll need to find a kernel that works and one that doesn't, then test between the two to find the change that broke things.

This site has a good explanation of the process: http://www.reactivated.net/weblog/archives/2006/01/using-git-bisect-to-find-buggy-kernel-patches/

I have made a new Gentoo System on my PowerMac Dual G4.

I use the Kernel 3.5.7-gentoo and the Kernel 3.7.6-vanilla. On both Kernel I got already the FIFO Problem like before with Kernel 2.6x!
My Powermac G4 hangs on Cisco Switch 2960G. So I fixed it by setting 'SPEED 100' on on Port where G4 hangs on!
The Problem I reported already exists.

PS.: Kernel driver for network is "sungem" and "sungem_phy"
