Hi, ALL,
I have a DELL E1505 laptop.
Relatively recently I updated to the kernel version 2.6.36-r8 gentoo-sources. Laptop has according to lspci -v:
Code: |
03:00.0 Ethernet controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4401-B0 100Base-TX (rev 02)
Subsystem: Dell Inspiron 6400
Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 64, IRQ 17
Memory at df9fe000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=8K]
Capabilities: [40] Power Management version 2
Kernel driver in use: b44
|
However, for some reason it's not able to get an IP address.
I never worked with the wire after Gentoo install.
Here is an "emerge --info":
Code: |
IgorsGentooOnNetwork igor # emerge --info

And here is the relevant dmesg output:
Code: |
igor@IgorsGentooOnNetwork ~ $ dmesg | grep b44

|
Is it a hardware problem? If no how to troubleshoot?
Thank you.

The obvious answer to this is to revert back to your previous kernel and reboot with that.
If that works then its not a hardware issue rather a kernel config issue.
If you for some unknown reason you deleted your previously working kernel prior to extensive testing of the new one then I would suggest using a livecd to test the hardware. |

Also if you reckon that the card is not receiving sn IP address that is a totally separate issue.
Post the output of the below commands.
Code: | ping 209.85.149.104 |
Also if nothing results from that go through the usual routine.
Code: | rm /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules |
And reboot
ETC ETC |

Hi,
Surprisingly enough after updating synaptics driver to fix slowing issue the wired interface came back.
I was able to get an IP.
Don't know why though.
Thank you. |
