I am trying to decide between the:

Asus RT-N56U
http://www.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=ik8J7ZTvg1uktpab

and the Netgear wndr3700
http://www.netgear.com/upload/flv/wndr3700landing.aspx

The asus has a CPU: RALINK 3662F 500MHZ with 128 mb of ram.

While the Netgear has 680 mhz processor with 64 mb of ram.

right now the asus has no linux firmware for it, but the router just came out and dd-wrt said they would work on a port if someone donated a router.

So here's my questions....
Does the traffic going through the router utilize the cpu and ram?
I plan on running a website at my apt for a hobby. but I would like to plan ahead..if my website gets popular with enough hits which router would be better for me?

dman777,

If your website gets popular enough for your router to be an issue, you will need a VPS or a dedicated host.
The bottleneck will be you upstream bandwidth.

The CPU and RAM are used in the router for driving the interfaces and buffering data while its between interfaces.
As thee devices are routers, they probably provide firewalls, NAT, DHCP and so on, for the devices they route for.

Computer users fall into two groups:-
those that do backups
those that have never had a hard drive fail.
