I think I like everything I've seen him in. Raising Arizona is the only thing I haven't been able to get interested in, but I've never seen it from the beginning (I don't think). 8mm was an interesting one.

Raising Arizona was probably the first film I saw of his. I liked it.

He isn't a great looking guy, you know the typical hero type. So I always wondered how is he getting lead roles and more movies I saw of his, the more I liked.

This guy doesn't have that snob like "I'm a great actor" thing in him.

Yep. That he used Cage instead of Coppola is a good indicator. I like most of his movies which are less mainstream and slightly off. Then his mainstream / action / pay the rent movies are usually good too. Can't blame a guy for wanting to make a living :)

Cage has been awesome ever since he got away from the tough-ass action-hero roles.

The probability that a movie with Cage in it, is good is pretty high, well reasonably high that is.

Pick a film, read its review, watch, like. That's consistency man. I like consistency.

Same here. I was cracking up throughout most of that movie. So many memorable lines from that one.

After that, the next film I saw him in was Vampire's Kiss. I enjoyed that one as well, he was such a complete idiot in that film. I started thinking that he was on a trajectory to becoming one of my favourite comedic actors and then out of nowhere he started doing really bad action movies. Ahnold he is not.

He was good before that time. But his time as a wannabe action star was just terrible. Face Off? That was horrid.

Jim Norton taking the piss out of Face Off

I liked Face Off, not because of Cage but because of Trovolta and John Woo.

I did like ConAir though.

He never exclusively did action movies, and he's not really "gotten away" from them. He does them from time to time (IMO) to pay for the quirky low-budget roles that end up being really, really good. As for Face Off, one of my all time favorites. I don't think it is a genre which compares at all to anything Arnold would do or that style of Kill 'Em All action. I think I went into Face Off expecting to really like Travolta (which I did an do), but was amazed at Cage stealing the show (as much as he did).

Don't think I've heard of that one. I'm very close to signing up for Netflix.

Next is about Cage being able to see 2 minutes into the future and the USian FEDs want to use him as a bomb sniffing tool.

Is this a joke thread? I like Cage, but I was under the impression that most people didn't like him or his movies.

My favorite movie of his is probably The Rock or Raising Arizona. I realize those are two completely different genre, but I think they are both really good.

What? He is a terrible actor and speaks in a monotone.

8mm was okay, didn't really like anything else by him.

And Cage was a better vampire in that movie than the entire cast of Twilight.

Also, meet the real Nicholas Cage.

Cage sucks. He plays two characters: Nicolas Cage, and crazy Nicolas Cage.

I won't deny he's been in some good movies, but in terms of actual acting talent, he's comparable to Christian Slater, Mel Gibson, Dolf Lundgren, or Chuck Norris.

Look. Here are his greatest moments:

Same can be said of Al Pacino, Jack Nicholson, Robert DeNiro, etc., etc.

I'd say Nicholson is a little better. He was convincing as a hard core senior officer in A Few Good Men, something very unlike his typical roles. Pacino's an over-actor and his role in Scarface was like somebody racist set out to insult Cubans. DeNiro shows emotion well, but can't be somebody else convincingly (I was embarrassed for him when I saw Frankenstein).

Along with Mel Gibson, another actor who is similar in ability to Cage is Bruce Willis. Actually, I think Bruce Willis might even be a little better.

What's an example of a good actor, then (reasonably contemporary)? Marlon Brando, Audrie Hepburn, Meryl Streep, Anthony Hopkins, Robert Downey Jr., Colin Firth, Johnny Depp, Anne Hathaway, Christian Bale, John McGinley, Daniel Day-Lewis, Peter Sellers, Gary Oldman, Russel Crowe, Ed Norton, etc..

LOL, Cage is better than all of them IMO. Brando is awful.
