|
|
I just installed VirtualBox 4 ebuild on amd64.
Well done.
I did find that I had to re-boot to get VirtualBox to actually run, it failed to start with a COM object creation failure.
However, I have a minor issue.
I installed the extpack to obtain USB capability.
I can plug in a USB key, a USB mouse, both of which I can 'check' such that they are attached to a running vm, and they work. (it is quite interesting having a mouse connected, the mouse works, but the pointer is not shown).
However, if I plug in my ActivIdentity USB SIM, it shows in the USB device list, but is greyed out.
I have tweaked my udev rules such that pcscd daemon is not run if VirtualBox is running, in case I want to attach the key to the VM, rather than to the host, but to no effect, the key remains 'grey'.
I have VirtualBox 3 on a different x86 gentoo machine, which works as expected. I can attach the device to my VM.
Any suggestions? _________________ ...Lyall

Try this and reboot:
Code: | #groupmems -g usb -a username |
It helps me. |

Thanks, but no good.
My user is already a member of the usb group.
In fact, my user is a member of wheel (so I can use sudo),
audio (so I can set volume),
cdrom (eject cdroms),
video (adjust brightness),
games (play games),
usb (use stuff programs like 'lsusb'),
vboxusers (actually run VirtualBox),
plugdev (plug in USB devices),
plus a couple of others
Additionally, you don't need to reboot after changing the group membership, just logout/login of the affected user.
As I indicated, other devices such as keyboards, mice, etc, show up and are 'attachable' to the VM, just the ActivIdentity USB SIM shows as grey. _________________ ...Lyall |

Solved.
Problem is that VirtualBox 4.0.0, with Oracle Extpack (to give USB 2) only forwards USB 2 devices to the VM if it is directly connected to the host, if you plug the device into a USB 2 HUB, the VM only sees 1.1 devices.
It would appear that the ActivIdentity USB SIM is USB 2.0 only, so is not workable with the VM in 1.1 mode.
This USB issue was also seen in this post.
I have raised a bug at VirtualBox.org http://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/8112 _________________ ...Lyall |
