Hello, It happened to me first time since I use gentoo( about tree years),
after
Quote:
eix-sync –w
and
Quote:
emerge –fuDNv world

I got output:
Performing global updates:
…several lines of normal text
and ( I wrote it in an abbreviated form)
/usr/portage/profiles/updates/[1-4]Q-20[04-11]………………………………
each line terminated with different dots count
and emerge –fuDNv world hangs.
What is the ground ?

Have you wait sufficiently long time?
Recent portage update took me rather long time, but it finished successfully.

If this doesn't help, try the following:

1) eix-sync (without -w, webrsync may cause problems);
2) emerge portage if required;
3) emerge system (this is always good idea to update system set first to get rid of possible future problems with failures and failed dependencies);
4) Update all other system as you usually do.

What a pity, that I did not read your message earlier.
All the best for gentoo.
