Finally got around to installing Gentoo w/ i3, i3status-rs. Is a work in progress as I learn Gentoo and continue my install.

Long time *BSD and Solaris user, decided to give Linux another shot after a log hiatus, trying Gentoo for the first time.
I'm positively surprised by the awesome work carried out by the development team, portage is an outstanding piece of software.

Cheers! :o

Let's bring this thread alive again...

I prefer the MATE desktop environment. Screenshot http://ellende.eu/public/Gentoo_Desktop_MATE_4K_22-01-2020.png

FYI, the oldest screenshot I saved is from nearly 15 years ago: http://ellende.eu/public/Gentoo_Lab_Framebuffer_Console_31-3-2005.png

I'd love to see your dotfiles, specifically your dmenu/conky bar. Are you trying to go mouse free?

Not mouse free, just less mouse. Here's my .xinitrc for DWM
Code:
feh --bg-scale Pictures/Backgrounds/wallpaper.png &
compton -f &
(conky | while read LINE; do xsetroot -name "$LINE"; done) &
exec dwm

Here's my ~/.conkyrc
Code:
conky.config = {
out_to_console = true,
out_to_x = false,
background = false,
update_interval = 2,
total_run_times = 0,
use_spacer = 'none',
};
conky.text = [[
:: ${cpu cpu0}% / ${cpu cpu1}% / ${cpu cpu2}% / ${cpu cpu3}% / ${cpu cpu4}% / ${cpu cpu5}% / ${cpu cpu6}% / ${cpu cpu7}% :: ${loadavg 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8} :: ${acpitemp}c :: $memperc% ($mem) :: ${downspeed enp2s0}K/s ${upspeed enp2s0}K/s :: ${time %a %b %d %I:%M%P}
]];
