Hi,
I'd like to have only one portage directory in our LAN from which the other clients do their daily emerge sync'ing.
With DISTDIR (in /etc/make.conf) I've already succeded and all users grab and put their source files from there--but somehow with PORTDIR it doesn't work. I don't remember the exact error message, though.
Since this doesn't seem to be recommended (see annotation in /etc/make.conf) should that work well normally (besides access rights and stuff) or are there bigger issues to concider first (profiles and whatnot)? |

You can just put /usr/portage on a NFS mount. You should not change it as some tools might have /usr/portage hardcoded and all docs refer to /usr/portage. |
